Just saw this on the local hard rock station's website:

Metallica announced they have tapped award-winning director Nimród Antal to direct the upcoming Metallica 3D feature film project. Charlotte Huggins (JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND) will produce.

The film will be a marriage of narrative and concert and will star the five members of Metallica: James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo, and the fans.

It will begin shooting this August and will be released in the summer of 2013.

“I’ve been a fan of Nimróds since his first Hungarian film, Kontroll, showed up at Cannes in 2004 and blew everybody away, said Metallica’s Lars Ulrich. “I’ve watched with excitement his career inHollywood blossom over the last few years. Within five minutes of meeting him I was addicted to his enthusiasm, his take on the creative process and his “thinking outside of the box” personality. Let’s get on with it!!!”

“Metallica has always been a huge part of my life, and it’s an incredible opportunity when we get to work with our heroes,” said Antal. “We are going to harness the powerful and almighty energy of Metallica’s live shows, inject a narrative into it, and shoot it in 3D to elevate the entire experience.”

I'm not sure if I'm on board with the idea of musicians going "3D". Seems like it'd be a bit distracting from their material. JM2CW

Yeah, I'm not sure what to think about it either, but there may be some cool effects that could be used. I'd be happy with just a really good, kickass sound and stage show from Metallica on the big screen. That would rock.

dont you have to have 3D tv or those kooky glasses to watch this stuff?

I am not sure if being in 3D would help a live concert DVD.....:dunno:

Now I remember the video for "Enter Sandman" giving me hellish nightmares as a child. Can you imagine that in 3D? :wtf:

^^Nope that is scary Iggy...:peek

:D

I am not sold on 3D anything...like Sweaty a Blu-Ray would suffice. As George reminded me you need a really big television to justify 3D at home anyway, and plasma would be better than LCD(LED) because it offers a far wider viewing area.(And are more expensive and heavier as well)

So count me out, I would rather spend the money on vinyl records anyway.;)
