When it comes to MEGADETH i would have liked to have seen Jeff Waters (ANNIHILATOR) come in the band as 2nd guitarist after Chris Poland left cos i read that Dave either approached Jeff or was considering Jeff as Chris's replacement either way if Jeff Waters had joined MEGADETH that would have been one mutha of a THRASH METAL BAND and would have left METALLICA in the dust!! :D

* * * Slight correction i can't recall if it was the replacement for Chris Poland or Marty Friedman that Dave approached Jeff Waters to come in as 2nd guitarist? * * *

Dave also approached Dimebag before the Rust In Peace album too at one point.

Hey Riff Raff you are correct about 'Dimebag' being approached by Dave but i believe Dimebag wanted his brother Vinney in as well as the bands drummer but Dave declined the offer still it would have been an interesting line-up :D

I don't think it would have worked anyway, Vinnie's style of drumming would not have suited Rust in Peace, plus I think given Daves ego, him and Dime would have had a lot of problems. Dime was major lead guitarist not just a co lead guitarist.
Plus the important point is Pantera would not have existed if he had taken Megadeth.

Yeah you are correct Riff Raff when it comes to Dimebag & Vinnie but with Jeff Waters that would have been a mutha of a thrash metal band!! :D

I recently read that Dave said that when he takes his kid son to school in the car his son usually puts on ANNIHILATOR and then points out to him (Dave) all the 'best bits' in there cds.

Dave is quoted as saying- "I'm proud that my son likes good metal". :D

I enjoyed Risk actually. Most avoid it but I love that album.
I still know it was a failure, it was a flop but it has some pretty cool tunes.

Megadeth thrash album also goes to The System Has Failed and Endgame.
Count me in as one of those who don't like Risk. It's not that the music is bad, because you're right, it is good in its own right as it has a lot of Marty's technical work involved, but it's like the uncle nobody talks about during family gatherings for a lot of Megadeth fans. Dave was smart and rebounded with The World Needs a Hero, which was like turning back to Youthanasia/Cryptic Writings/Countdown and kept along that road, and actually got better with The System Has Failed, United Abominations (the most aggressive sound post-Risk, and probably the most politically-charged album ever), and Endgame.

Th1rt3en, for me, wasn't all that great, really. I was expecting more, I suppose. It's nice; it has some 90's 'Deth elements (Dave's solo in Public Enemy #1, for instance), some TWNAH and TSHF elements (Never Dead) that I liked, but overall it was a ho-hum effort. New World Order is great, but it's a rewrite from the RIP/Countdown era (and sounds like it).

I really wish Megadeth had stuck with Degrasso...And a problem I have with his [Drover] drumming on Thirteen is I hear a very dominating kick drum sound, the drumming on the album leaves a lot to be desired.
I agree there. Degrasso is a very good drummer and reminded me of Menza with a bit more heavy foot and a smart double bass. Drover just seems to overdrive a lot of songs on here, which begs the question; are the songs just too weak for his drumming or is he too strong/heavy of a drummer to tone it down?

At this moment, I'd have to rank Megadeth's albums as such:
  1. United Abominations
  2. Countdown to Extinction
  3. Rust In Peace
  4. Endgame
  5. The System Has Failed
  6. Youthanasia
  7. The World Needs A Hero
  8. Peace Sells
  9. Th1rt3en
  10. Cryptic Writings
  11. Killing Is My Business
  12. So Far So Good....So What
  13. Risk

United Abominations is a pretty decent album, took time to grow on me though. Love Sleepwalker, Blessed Are the Dead, Gears of War and A Tout Le Monde.

Thirteen for me was a pretty decent effort, aside from Drovers repetitive drumming I love the guitar work on this album.

Endgame is the most thrashy album since Rust in Peace and ranks really high on my list.

I don't really like to rank them in order as every album I do like.

I was a bit over excited with the new one, 13, when it first came out. I overrated it a tad but I still like it alot. I'm gonna have to say that I like both United Abomination and End Game more now that it has settled in a bit. All three are really good IMO but none of them rate up there with Dave's masterworks, Peace Sells and Rust.

So Far So Good is underrated as well. I don't get why people hate it. Sure it is no Peace Sells but I think it has its subtle charm about it, has the opening song which I think Dave wrote after he was fired from Metallica, a tribute song to Cliff Burton. Some insanely classy riffs.
