Map of Metal

I thought this was a cool find, of all the metal genres and how they branched out, which bands and songs are the real innovators of each. Thought I would post it here.

That is pretty cool. I just kinda sifted through some of the various subgenres to see what they had to say about it and found the most amazing part of the site (so far) to be that every single song link back to YT worked. (Edit: the more I looked around, I did find a handful of songs that aren't working... still a cool site)

:heheh:

:oy:

Will have to come back to this when I have more time. Good find

That's probably one of the best things I have ever seen. Some good mentions, Uriah Heep, Buffalo, Sir Lord Baltimore. Even my favourite Thin Lizzy track 'Emerald' got the place there. Now THIS is what I call a 'research' place.

And when you see Saxon as a starting point for NWOBHM... makes me feel proud to be a fan of them.

Considering how many subgenres of Metal are spread all over that map, I did notice one or two subgenres that are glaringly missing ... Christian Metal and White Metal. Not sure if that would be considered one or two separate subs and I know sometimes they are just grouped together, but I'm not sure I would do that.

And I say that as someone who is not a very big fan of either, but it does seem to be a glaring omission. Otherwise, as I said before, that's a pretty cool setup and layout.

Far up-right you will find Unblack Metal. That's White/Christian Metal. :grinthumb

Ill do some more investigating of the death metal subgenres. Plenty of bands in that nature I want to listen to.

That is a good map, first time I saw anything that put all the different genres in some order was the chart on "Global Metal", thought that was really interesting.

Love how they put "Rap Metal" off on it's own island, won't catch me visiting that spot ever.:D
