This is a song on the other side of tracks after that relationship. After the breakup I never got the answers or closure I wanted but honestly as you grow you realize there are no real answers and it just is. My first love still wanted to be friends and as nice of a thought as that is it's also naive. We had the same circle of friends and this was on a college campus so their really wasn't much choice but to suck it up. To a degree I suppose we are still friends as there is no ill will and e have coincided for an occasion or two but it's never meant to be the same. Anyway, one of the most naive things she ever said when we came back from vacation after our breakup was "You can be the best man at my wedding!" I think I died inside at that point and the following song came out as these wounds were still fresh. I knew what it was like to feel like or feel like I was going to be like the guy in that song. Don't get me wrong! I love the song and it's tragically beautiful! A true tearjerker!

This was the closing note for the last girl I had feelings for. Honestly it was unexplainable why but it was the hardest I had fallen for anyone and it's not a method of attraction I'll ever go for again now that I know the disadvantages. Every word to this song is perfect and I to it's perfection. So many truths. The story is that Emerson wrote this for a married couple who seemed perfect to everyone and still loved each other but had to part ways because they were not truly right for eah other and weren't truly "In Love" anymore.
