ANGEL formed Washington DC 1975 Frank Di mino [vocals],Punky Meadows [guitar] Mickey Jones [bass] Gregg Giuffria [keyboards]Barry Brandt [ drums ] were the finest bunch of musicians......[ ok..its gonna get a bit biased as they are my fave band of all time ]
Remembered for being on the same CASABLANCA label as KISS. ANGELs glam image of dressing in white was quite spectacular.Their debut album was a gem of hard rock with Giuffrias impressive keyboards giving the band a progressive edge.
After many superb albums....they split... Giuffria..had a band with the same name...then joined HOUSE OF LORDS
ANGEL returned briefly with the "in the beginning" album some 20 years later.....there is also talk of a album finished this year.....Dimino and Brandt remain from the original line up.Micky Jones r.i.p
Great to see another ANGEL fan on the forum..BeatleRose
Good footage Jonty ! Who would ever believe Graham Bonnet as a 70s glam singer ?? I wonder if Mr Blackmore and RAINBOW had ever heard of Billy Beethoven ? I bet Graham kept quiet about that one.
The band were fictitious with actors Robert Lindsay [ Citizen Smith /My family] and Paul Nicholas [Just good friends] in the band for the film, but a single "dreams" was released in 1975. This of course is nowadays very rare.....one for you Bonnet/Rainbow fans out there ....not forgetting he also had a solo career and sang for The Michael Schencker Group too.
One of the most collectable singles from 1973 is by an artist named "Larry Lurex". Turns out the guy singing is none other than a young Freddie Mercury. Despite the glam sounding name the record is more 60s Spector style pop.
Heres another early70s glam track done by Kim Fowley who was the man who brought THE RUNAWAYS together .
I came across a band I thought might fit your Glam Thread ?
The Marmalade
A scottish rock-Pop band who had a string of hit's in late 60's early 70's
They were managed by Peter Walsh who was a 60's -70's pop entrepreneur who's portfolio inc : The Tremeloes, Bay City Rollers ,Billy Ocean, The Troggs and Blue Mink
THE MARMALADE ......Yes Astrid...worth a mention. Mostly remembered as a late 60s band with a catchy number 1 hit " ob la di ob la da " [cover of a Beatles song.] MARMALADE like a few 60s bands sneaked the odd hit in the early 70s
I remember hearing a song by them on Radio Luxembourg [74 /75 ish ] and was gobsmacked how rock orientated it was. I dont know the title for sure I think it was called "Come back to.." [cant find it on you=tube]
Maybe our good friend Snowblue might know....
I did find some info that MARMALADE were previously known as Dean Ford and the Gaylords [......yes a namechange was the best thing ]lol
Heres THE MARMALADE showing off their more later glamrock style...
I didn't consider them a glam band but I loved Marmalade but I lost track of them in the early 70's. I dug around and found out that the song you mentioned was called "Come Back Jo". I couldn't find any online video/audio of it, which is a pity as I would have liked to have heard it.
Your videos brought back a few memories, Astrid!
I remember this one too....
A bit off topic but Hughie Nicholson who wrote the last song and shared the vocals went on to form Blue, who only lasted a couple of years but they were a favourite band of mine at the time.
What great band , I wasn't sure what category The Marmalade fit Sno ? Thanks for the video..thats a fun song..kinda folky sound/almost country ? I think they must have been a really enjoyable pop group in their day..I heard 'Reflections Of My Life' on the oldies and I thought what GREAT song who is this ? lol
Had to check them out..and liked them even more ..thanks for you input !!
PS : PURELY girlness..Dean Ford was pretty tasty lol
