These bands jump at the chance to be signed to a big record label, and I don’t blame them. They want fame & fortune. However, evil things seem to come with that fame & fortune.
I was taught, never sign a contract until you know what that contract contains and what that contract means for you, including the fine print.
This does not mean that UMG didn’t cheat the band out of royalties. Hell these labels have been cheating musicians since the beginning.
the 1990s rap rock band accused UMG of implementing a “systemic” and “fraudulent” policy that was “deliberately designed” to conceal royalties from artists and “keep those profits for itself.”
That right there is what is going to be hard to prove, let alone prove a dollar amount they feel they have been cheated out of.
I wish Limp Bizkit luck in their case, but I have a hunch the law suit will go nowhere.
