Re: Any King Crimson Fans in the House?

Reading this thread reminded me of the first time I saw King Crimson live. It was 1st July 1969 at Goldsmiths College in New Cross (in London). At the time I lived in Deptford, which was not far away. A friend told me there was a free festival up at the college, so we went. It was held in the fields behind the college.

I forget who else was at the festival but King Crimson were superb, having not long released their debut album "In the Court of the Crimson King". The title track of the album and '20th Century Schitzoid Man' were the highlights of course!

I remember also that the festival was very anarchic with graffiti on the walls of the college and people wandering in and out with no control whatsoever! In looking up about this concert on Google (I found the date of the concert through google) I found out that it was organised by Malcom McLaren (of Sex Pistols fame), who was a student there at the time. So no wonder it was anarchic..........lol

After reading your post it reminds me of the old saying..."It's a small world after all."

That would have been epic to see KC at the very beginning, I would never forget that show either Andwar.

I would so love to have seen them very good, I actually went to a bar in Amsterdam some years ago and the sign was court of the crimson king and their album covers were on the wall inside. Great band.

When I got my first little compact JVC stereo and started buying LPs, their first three albums were among my earliest acquisitions. I never quite warmed to the 2nd and 3rd albums as much as the first, and they ended up getting sold over the years. I still listen to the first album a lot, though, and just love it. I remember playing it in the dark when I was a teenager, and getting the sensation that some of the L-R-L and R-L-R panning sounded almost like the instruments were floating around my bedroom in big circles. And no, there were no drugs involved. ;)

Years later I became a big fan of Fripp's work with the Roches.

Big King Crimson fan here. What I like about them is that they're still finding ways to keep the music fresh and adventurous. It's too bad Robert Fripp does'nt get recognized for his talents. My most fave albums are Crimson King, Wake Of Poseidon, Islands, Larks', Bible Black, Red, Discipline, and ConstruKction Of Light.

Back when Elephant Talk first came out, my dad was taping songs off the radio, heh. When he passed away two years ago, I had the unseemly task of going through his apartment, and rescuing anything of value and found his vast archive of tapes and for the first time in, like, 20 years, I heard this song and the memories it brought back! I had to share it with my brother. Elephant Talk is truly one of those revolutionary songs because of the wild things Adrian and Peter were doing on guitar... And my God, Tony's work on the Chapman Stick stopped me in my track. I went out and bought a legal copy of that track seconds after I heard it off my dad's tape. WHAT a song.

Just heard this earlier, and I gotta say it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard:

    Cadence & Cascade
