John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono will once again oppose the parole of her late husband’s killer. She has sent a letter each time of the five times Mark David Chapman has faced a parole board. She has sent another letter for when he’ll again face the board on August 9, according to the New York Daily News.

Chapman shot and killed the former Beatle outside the Dakota apartment building on December 8, 1980. Lennon and Ono were returning from a recording session. The convicted murderer has been serving a 20 years-to-life prison sentence in upstate New York.

In her first letter, opposing Chapman’s 2000 parole, Ono wrote that if he were released, “I am afraid it will bring back the nightmare, the chaos and confusion once again. Myself and John’s two sons would not feel safe for the rest of our lives.”

Due to his notoriety, Chapman – now 55 – is mostly kept away from the general prison population. Although he had some minor prison violations early on, his record has been clean since 1994, according to the Daily News.

The head of prisoners’ rights group Correctional Association of America, Robert Gangi, doubts Chapman will be released. He thinks the public uproar, in that event, would be something everyone would rather avoid.

“Given that he committed a high-profile crime and he killed one of the most famous and most beloved figures literally in the world, it’s highly unlikely three parole commissioners would vote to grant him release,” Gangi told the Daily News.

Wait if he's been imprisoned since 1981, hasn't he been in prison for almost 30 years? and another thing,

Thats actually kind of bullshit. Are they implying that if he had killed a average every day person he would of got parole long time ago?
Thats really, really, really stupid to say. I don't care if it was a homeless man or if it was John Lennon, murder should be treated equal REGARDLESS of the person.
And the whole argument that the guy did it for fame is dumb too, the guy is CLEARLY a nut. He clearly had problems, and he clearly was/is insane. His argument was a quote from a book. He basically got off for reasons of insanity, but plead guilty because a wizard in the clouds told him to. He's delusional.

Although I kind of hope he gets out, and goes for Yoko next.

Crossing my fingers.

Yeah, Yoko's going to be like "He killed John Lennon! John Lennon we're talking about!" and the judge will be like "Yeah, I love the Beatles, ASSHOLE!!!!!" and he'll go back to jail. Had he of killed a rolling stone it may of been a different story.

I agree that if someone who is homeless is killed or if it's someone famous, that the law should look at things equally.

I haven't been following the parole hearings and I don't know if Chapman's a danger to others.

LXA ~ It's not cool to wish someone to die or even that bad things happen to them ... Yoko's husband was killed in front of her.

Isn't that something terrible that she'll have to live with the rest of her life?

Chapman is right where he needs to be, if you ask me. Fortunately he was sentenced during a period of time where people who kill someone actually did a reasonable amount of time.
