I'm pretty indifferent to Fogerty in general...interesting voice, pretty bland output IMO...but I gotta say I just cringe anytime I go to a baseball game because I know I'm gonna have to sit through "Centerfield" at least once...no, not the worst song ever, but certainly a throwaway compared to his CCR stuff ( which I'm only lukewarm on in the first place). Lack of competition is the only reason the song could make the HoF.

Fogerty is pretty bland? I wonder what you think of today's modern rock?
:heheh:

I'd rather sit through a great tune like ''Centerfield", then clap your hands and stomp your feet like robots to ''We Will Rock You''.
:oyea:

Also, "Centerfield" is waaaay better than any hip hop song, that I couldn't even name, at sporting events....

See, "Centerfield" isn't that bad. :)

I agree. Centerfield is a good tune. Of course the CCR stuff will always stand as the benchmark of John Fogerty's career but Centerfield, the album, contains pure Fogerty. I wouldn't want it any other way.:grinthumb

Now, it's my turn to agree with you, Odysseus...

Not only is ''Centerfield'' a cool tune, it's a pretty good album. One of my favorite albums from the 80's.

I couldn't agree more. The signature line in that song is one of the tunes I use to warm up on guitar prior to rehearsals. And yes, if Fogerty is bland, then 99% of what gets recorded today must be absolutely comatose. Is it the greatest song ever? Of course not, but it was fun and you basically NEVER hear music recorded like that anymore, especially in rock. It's a song about Baseball! A welcome change from what you typically hear about (sex, drugs or being bad boys in the old days, these days, depressing lyrics that are supposed to be deep and "post-modern," whatever that means). Centerfield was a fun, carefree tune and I'm glad to see it finally get inducted into the HOF.

Centerfield, now that wasn't a good song. Then again over the years artists will have "fillers" and this is one of John's.
