I don't think so for a second. If we're talking strictly shredding then they are all up in Steve's league but in overall musicianship, compositions, expression, and diversity in musical feeling he is in a league of his own in the world of guitarists.

Sorry Buckethead is right up there regardless of shredding ability.

Well with all due respect to both your opinion and Buckethead's playing ability I don't think he's on Steve's level.


But in relation to the actually topic of the thread, I think Steve Vai and Joe Satriani is a fine example of the student surpassing the master.

I'd go with Buckethead here.

As I've stated before, on previous threads, I don't really like extensive guitar solos, because I feel they detract from the music. But with music like Bucketheads, the entire song feels like a big solo (most, if not all, of his work is instrumental I think.)

God, that man can shred.

I don't know who is better but I like Joe Satriani more than Steve Vai.

Steve Vai! No doubt Satriani is technically great but I love Vai's emotional style. Satriani doesn't make feel anything to me.
