Re: Jethro Tull

^^ That's a classic RS and they had Tony Iommi filling in on guitar as Mick Abrahams had moved on.

Apparently they appeared in it at the last minute deputising for, I think, David Bowie but I'm not 100% certain. Can anyone confirm that?

Ian Anderson sang "live" but the band mimed to the record so in reality Tomy Iommi was "busking" to the guitar track laid down by Mick Abrahams. If you notice in the video Tony Iommi keeps his head down - so as not to be recognised? :oyea:

Lol that's weak they mimed the record. I think all the other performances at least (besides Salt of the Earth of course), where live.

Would have been cool to have David Bowie there as well! :cheers2

That's not to say Iommi couldn't do the part he only stepped in as a favour to Ian, it all depends how much rehearsal time they were allowed ??

From The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This concert is the only footage of Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi performing as a member of Jethro Tull; he was a member for this show only as a favour to Anderson while they looked for a replacement for Mick Abrahams. The band mimed to the album version of "A Song for Jeffrey" and 'Fat Man' as the Stones told them to cut their time down and it would save time on rehearsing," Fat Man' never made the final release . This footage also included some of Ian Anderson's first attempts of his now famous flute-playing position, with one leg in the air.

I wouldn't call myself a huge Tull fan but I do like some of their stuff. I love Thick as a Brick! That's a song/album that occasionally gets stuck in my head.

It's a shame, it would have been good if they had been given the time to rehearse. To see Tony do those tracks would have been great, different maybe but great all the same. :cheers2

Re: Jethro Tull

I was reading an article about the Rock 'n' Roll Circus (in an edition of Mojo from 2004) which stated that a pre-fame Led Zeppelin sent in an audition tape to try and get on the show but that Mick Jagger never replied. Now that would have been something :D

Great to see you again Sir Jeffrey...I am working on a post for this thread but am waiting for Sox to get back from Wales before putting it in here.:D

That is a funny story, what on earth was Mick thinking?? Or perhaps LZ hadn't impressed anyone yet, out of my realm of expertise I'm afraid, I only know the bands when they Made it big, no surprise seeing I only had one tv channel and AM radio when all this was going on.:heheh:
