Re: Jethro Tull

Not being a huge fan, my main Jethro Tull anecdote dates back to when I was in high school, and no it wasn't a karaoke session. It is a true story, however.

I'll never forget sitting in shop class in 9th or 10th grade. The teacher was at least 10 minutes late, so most of the guys in class were sitting around doing nothing. A group of us were having a conversation about their favorite rock and roll bands.

Anyway, one of the guys says his favorite band is "Jethro Hull." That's what he called them. Another guy in the group was quick to correct him and point out the band name is Jethro Tull. The first guy got all offended and insisted, loudly, that he was correct.

The two of them go back and forth about the band name, each of them insisting they are right. The whole time there are four or five other guys in shop class that didn't bother getting in the middle of this, including me. One thing leads to another and these two guys end up in a fist fight in the shop room over this.

As it turns out, the person who was calling the band "Jethro Hull" won the fight quite handily, so it is quite possible that he has never been corrected to this day.

So if you ever meet someone at a party talking about Jethro Hull or if someone shows up on the forums calling them that, if you want a real icebreaker ask them about that fight in shop class in 9th grade.

If you do meet up with him tell him the group's name is Jethro Toe (after the cock-up with the name on the very first MGM single) or that the lead singer's name was Ian Henderson after the misprint on the first batch of the "Love Story" single. :oyea:

Re: Jethro Tull

Oh yes I agree Sox, Benefit is a brilliant album. In my view there's no duff or filler track on it. All good music.

By the way, Tull are in Ireland later this month so hopefully we will have some concert reviews etc.

Re: Jethro Tull

Really love Tull like a lot of you guys, Minstrel in the Gallery and Songs from the Woods probably my two favourite albums of theirs. A friend of mine was mad on them and he got me into them, I loved their slightly eccentric folksy Olde Worlde England feel to their music, like a throwback through time to the days of court jesters, really unique style and sound they had.

Re: Jethro Tull

I saw Jethro Tull's performance on Rolling Stones Rock n Roll Circus in 1968. Pretty good stuff, I enjoyed it. I don't think the video's on YouTube though. It used to be.
