Re: Jethro Tull

I can see buying multiple vinyl LPs tracing a favoured artist's career, but being a dinosaur from aeons past I just can't see tracing an artist's career through individual CDs. As a result, I don't have any of Jethro Tull's CD only releases. With that in mind, would this CD be a good one for me to get to keep me appraised of what the fellows have been doing in the last twenty years?

Re: Jethro Tull

If that one is too daunting Kino then try this one, it is the first JT album I bought when it was released, and I fell in love with them.

One of the unique things about this album it included "Rainbow Blues" which was unreleased on any previous album at that time, just a tidbit for fanatics like myself and it is a good song as well.:D

^^That looks great Jeffrey, I love all the fancy things they started doing with vinyl in the late 70's and 80's. One of the best in my old collection was Styx's "Pieces of Eight", gold vinyl you could see right through it.

Re: Jethro Tull

I can't find it in myself to not like Tull Sox, but the Drum Machine Ian programmed on this one just stood out for me, and I would have liked Clive or Barrimore pounding the skins, I think that would have made a big difference. The concept of this one was good too, all about covert espionage going on in the Spy vs Spy universe, it apparently did alright in Europe but slipped out of sight in a hurry over here.

I definitely agree with all of those excellent points, as well, LG! :cheers2

Perhaps Ian didn't like the process of trying to find a new drummer, or possibly he might have decided that one wasn't necessary to complete that album, I don't know. :peek

Whether it was the Drum Machine or maybe the overall sound of the album, but to me Under Wraps does have a somewhat Techno-type vibe with it, imo. :wtf:

If Under Wraps was more successful worldwide it would have been rather interesting to see what the following album would've been like and the direction JT might have gone, too.

Re: Jethro Tull

^^You are right about that Rocker440, if it was more successful he might have lingered with that type of sound longer,,,I don't mind him stretching his creative muscles but am glad he moved on after Under Wraps to a more conventional Tull sound.

Live drummers > any machines, as I said earlier. And Jeffrey I would love that, if they did a deluxe anniversary album with a real drummer and offered both versions.

Re: Jethro Tull

Nice rare find as usual Sir Jeffrey.:hab:

That sure looks like Daniel Radcliffe in the bottom right hand corner though, a dead ringer for Harry Potter in fact.

Unless my old baby blues are failing me at last.:heheh:

Looking at the promo photo, isn't one of those gent's a drummer? Maybe he was hired after the album was completed, or perhaps for the tour. Does it mention something about the drummer, or lack thereof within the press info? I don't have my magnifying glass handy, but I probably couldn't read most of that anyway! :heheh:

:heheh: Yes, it does look quite a lot like Harry Potter, LG! I think that's possibly Peter-John Vettese, the keyboard player?
