Re: Jethro Tull

Hep that image of Ian playing "on one leg" is seared into my memory forever. I am sure I'm not the only one who has seen him play his flute solo live with just him and a strobe light behind him, one of the simplest and most stunning effects I have ever seen in a live concert.

It's interesting that Chris Wright, who was one of the principal's behind Jethro Tull's label Chrysalis Records, had strongly suggested that Ian abandon the flute. Fortunately for music history Ian ignored his advice.

Though not classically trained on the instrument, Ian's flair for improvisation helped him to make his mark with the flute. An integral part of his playing was a humming technique he achieved by fluttering his tongue while blowing into his flute. This was a trick Ian had evidently borrowed from avant garde classical flute players.

Re: Jethro Tull

If he follows through and records an album of his flute music I for one will add it to the collection. There has never been another "Flautist" that sounds like he does, like the "Eddie Van Halen" of flute players.(I know you don't like VH but his guitar sound is so different from everyone else I think it's a good comparison.)

Boy those are great Jeffrey, I don't think I have seen any of them before. I only bought the LP's, and I don't think I ever picked up a 7" EP album, they were hard to get over here anyway.

Jeffrey:

Are you a collector of picture sleeves? Are any of the ones you posted from your personal collection?

Some of them are from my collection Hepcat, the others I've found on various sites on the internet. The French, German, Italian etc., companies used to produce picture sleeves but the UK, Canadian, US companies produced only a few. I've tended to pick up those which are "interesting" but it would cost a lot of money to buy them all. I've got a few more which I'll post when I've got a moment!:grinthumb
