Re: Jefferson Airplane (Starship & Beyond)

Also another great song from them. One of my favorites, great performance here as well.

Didn't Jefferson Airplane play with the Stones at Altamont in 1969?

Yes I think they were second??? :grinthumb

Played this old beauty last night, been ages since I listened to Jefferson Starship, and Marty Balin really shines on this one.

Re: Jefferson Airplane (Starship & Beyond)

"Surrealistic Pillows" are my fav album of all times...I listen to it even more than Floyd's DSOTM and Meddle. Reason for that is brilliantly captured spirit of 60s in all those psychedelic gems. One of my fav songs there is D.C.B.A, that superb rhythm and Grace's vocie on verse is just beautiful. Can I have a witness?

Great band, I have 5 of their albums, just getting into some Hot Tuna and that Paul Kantner album, some good vibes, and I don's like Starship:)

Jefferson Airplane was a great band. Don't know what happened after that.

Yeah that song isn't bad at all. I guess they have a few gems here and there in the Starship days. That's cool.

By the way, other than Grace Slick (who of course has a periphreal role in this song) I don't notice any original Airplane members. Is it the 80s hairdoos or is she the only one?

You don't see Kantor in there???

I know Starship to some may have gotten cheesy and others think Jefferson Starship's best music was the earlier stuff.

For me the two back to back centerpieces are Freedom At Point Zero and Modern Times.

IMO these are like their Leftoverture/ Point Of Know Return.....Grand Illusion/ Pieces Of Eight...ect.

Jefferson Airplane was a great band. Don't know what happened after that.

off the top of my head, here's a few of my favorite songs off of various albums during the "Jefferson Starship" era:

1975: Miracles

1978: Count on Me

1979: Jane

1981: Stranger

1974: Ride the Tiger

Sorry for the semi-spammish vid above, but I can't find any other
studio version of Ride the Tiger on YT. Go figure.

Anyway, they had a lot of cool tunes in the 70's and early 80's before they re-transformed into the radio-friendly pop-hit machine known as simply "Starship" in the mid 80's.

 I agree, one of my faves by the band. Early 80's goodness!!!

I like everything about that tune, but the thing that sticks out to me the most is the harmonies between Balin and Slick. Love the bass line, love the dual guitar sound. :D
