:) I agree with most of the ppl in the discussion: Alice Cooper breathes metal.. Seen the man live on stage (with snake) at a metal festival. He fits.

I live in Buffalo, NY
Alice is my favorite next to Kiss & I would put him under metal. I really liked his experimental early 80's stuff but feel he should've went Balls Out Metal instead of waiting 5 or 6 years.
Besides some of his early Shock Rock stuff
Check Out these whole albums:
Raise Your Fist & Yell
Brutal Planet
Dragontown
Along Came a Spider

METALPRIEST:

Great chart!

I used to debate with some that Sabbath was not metal (which is funny to me)...one person told me that Sabbath was a blues band....

You're right. Black Sabbath is in no way a blues band. Black Sabbath is the prototypical metal band.

Thanks Foxhound.....every metal chart cannnot show every metal band that there was but a few key examples for each genre....

...and just to be fair to us both...Alice always falls under "Shock Rock" yet still worthy to make a metal list or family tree. Zeppelin and Sabbath get the term before Alice does. Alice was pretty dark...he had some good ballads too but then again so did Judas Priest and hell Priest made Turbo.

:heheh:

I rather enjoyed that chart too Priest. Alice is shock rock but that I'm sure if there was a synonym to "shock" that rhymed with "metal" then that's what they would've gone with back in the 70's when they labeled the Alice Cooper band.

On a sidenote I was kind of caught off with the "pop metal" section of that chart. Considering the acts placed in it I was surprise The Crue wasn't there and was very surprised to see Gun N' Roses and Van Halen in particular to be considered ANY kind of "pop" just because they were successful. Also I was pleasantly surprised to see The Darkness squeezed in at the very end there because I didn't think most people cared about them that much, even if I'd never call them metal.

Alice Cooper was heavier, darker, more rebellious as well as LOUDER than most of the bands on the scene at the time.

I noticed at the TOP of the chart , it doesn't have a KING of METAL area w/ Maiden and Priest

Great Chart!...I wanted a copy off the documentary film I mentioned earlier in here, they broke down all the metal history from Sabbath up to the present.
