I just have to say that for the first time a whole In This Moment c.d. has sunk in. I was showing my friend the versatility of Maria Brink by playing two songs posted in this thread, "World On Fire" followed by "Welcome To The Gun Show". He was impressed. Coincidentally he was the second one in an hours time to say without prompting that Maria was better than Otep with her vocals! Anyway, after that I just let "Star Crossed Wasteland" play and through all the screams I actually heard melodies and structure that fit my mood perfectly. The mood was a bittersweet mood based on events of the night and the album hit me good. The two tracks I really got into were:
Standing Alone
So here we are now at the end of our road.
So many questions going unanswered.
These streets are dark and led me far from you.
And you never noticed that I was gone.
And now I'm standing here alone.
Still I hold my head up high.
The time has come for me to leave.
It's the only way to survive.
There's no need now for you to say word.
Your sacrifices for me took a turn.
I hope you're sailing free and on your way.
And I hope that you think of me each day.
And now I'm standing here alone.
Still I hold my head up high.
The time has come for me to leave.
It's the only way to survive.
And now I'm standing here alone.
Holding my head high.
The time has come for me to leave.
It's the only way to survive.
Now I'm standing here alone.
It's the only way to survive.
An update for me on this one. Before this thread was started I was pulled in heavily by the particular "Into The Light" track and bought "The Dream" album. The album was good but the followup "A Star Crossed Wasteland" was a lot better as a whole. It's heavier moments were really heavy and mixed the ballads with the pure metal tracks a lot better to please a more well rounded fan base and create a more balanced album. Today I rounded out my collection to buy the debut album "Beautiful Tragedy" which has a great track in "When The Storm Subsides". I even finally updated my c.d. of "The Dream" to the sprecial Edition. I HATE buying c.d.s twice BUT this was worth it. Aside from the "Call Me" cover I already knew was great these two tracks are amongst the best I've heard from them:

I saw them live twice and thought that maybe she had thrown out her voice because of how weak and half-assed she sounded. For the majority of both shows she couldn't even spill half of the lines into the microphone. Instead of assuming I gathered up enough performance viewings to see she isn't a strong vocalist when moving about on stage. Very whiny, too. I know of many fan boys that ogle over her because of Maria Blink's sex appeal, not the music behind her exterior. The little Bo-peep dresses/sexy wear are getting old. There's a reason why people seem to comment more on her than the voice coming out. "She should be a porn star" is nothing new to be heard.
They don't set themselves apart from other metal core competitors and their use of breakdowns/etc are somewhat out of place and not infiltrated well. The lack of screaming (especially on "Beautiful Tragedy") makes the overall vibe stale for me. I prefer a balance if screaming blends with singing and it does in this band. Their riff chugging sounds watered down, overused, and is what half of the bands are doing in this genre. Besides that they do incorporate nice guitar solos and interludes.
