Thank you so much for that "opposing viewpoint", Grunge!!!I saw them live twice and thought that maybe she had thrown out her voice because of how weak and half-assed she sounded. For the majority of both shows she couldn't even spill half of the lines into the microphone. Instead of assuming I gathered up enough performance viewings to see she isn't a strong vocalist when moving about on stage. Very whiny, too. I know of many fan boys that ogle over her because of Maria Blink's sex appeal, not the music behind her exterior. The little Bo-peep dresses/sexy wear are getting old. There's a reason why people seem to comment more on her than the voice coming out. "She should be a porn star" is nothing new to be heard.
They don't set themselves apart from other metal core competitors and their use of breakdowns/etc are somewhat out of place and not infiltrated well. The lack of screaming (especially on "Beautiful Tragedy") makes the overall vibe stale for me. I prefer a balance if screaming blends with singing and it does in this band. Their riff chugging sounds watered down, overused, and is what half of the bands are doing in this genre. Besides that they do incorporate nice guitar solos and interludes.
I was beginning to wonder whether this was another one of those bands where I'm the only one who doesn't get the fascination.
I saw In This Moment open for Megadeth a few years ago (or more than a few ... 2007?). I had no advance info and no clue about them. This is what I saw: Female with long blonde hair in a cutesy outfit comes out, starts headbanging and doing cookie monster vocals. I kid you not! Then I'm pretty sure the entire band proceeded to do the simultaneous head banging thing because I remember all three opening bands doing that The situation on stage didn't improve much after that and I definitely wasn't impressed. I remember more than once and this was with all the opening bands I had to look away or look down and hope no one noticed I was laughing.
Later on I found their my space page and I did kinda like the Blondie cover they did; almost thought it wasn't the same band but again the rest of the songs didn't do much for me. Mainly weak and derivative. Sorry ...
