Hall of Fame Guru
Hello all. Thank you to everyone who has participated so far in the Hall of Fame threads, it has been great. Hope all of you are enjoying it.
I am certain that I will have to change the voting pattern at some point in the future, and figured sooner rather than later would be ideal. So here is my idea, but I am willing to listen to other suggestions if you have any. Right now as the list of possible artists swells, votes start to get spread thin, and artists start to lose traction sooner and sooner. The list of newly eligible each year gets so much attention that 6 weeks down the road, several new artists will get inducted and then whatever leftover artist can manage 2 votes will go in as well. I want to avoid an artist getting in with just 2 votes.
So starting in week 6 I will make a nomination thread first with all the eligible artists like we have now. Every voter can choose 15 artists to nominate. The top 12 (or so, depending on ties) will then be official nominees, and the next round of voting will be for each voter to pick 7 of those just from the nominee list in which the top 5 vote-getters will be enshrined into the CRF Hall of Fame.
I think we can handle that with the traffic we have here. My question is can we do both segments of a vote in 1 week, or should we spread it over 2 weeks? The first time it comes up will be around Christmas, so no matter what we decide, I am going to give 1 week for the nominations, and 1 week for the inductions. After that will depend on your feedback. If we do it all in 1 week, I will have the nomination panel open on Sunday afternoon, and close it Wednesday evening, then open the induction voting from Wednesday night until Sunday morning. Do you think enough people will stop by enough to vote in both segments? It's OK if we end up keeping it a week at a time. It will take longer, but I'm not going anywhere. Also, once the nominations are in, I could count straight votes, or we could rank them in order and assign points for a #1 ranking, #2 ranking, etc.
Anyway, I think this is the only viable way to have good accurate votes. Feedback on this issue would be much appreciated, and feedback on the whole project would be welcome as well. Thanks
