Hello all. Thank you to everyone who has participated so far in the Hall of Fame threads, it has been great. Hope all of you are enjoying it.

I am certain that I will have to change the voting pattern at some point in the future, and figured sooner rather than later would be ideal. So here is my idea, but I am willing to listen to other suggestions if you have any. Right now as the list of possible artists swells, votes start to get spread thin, and artists start to lose traction sooner and sooner. The list of newly eligible each year gets so much attention that 6 weeks down the road, several new artists will get inducted and then whatever leftover artist can manage 2 votes will go in as well. I want to avoid an artist getting in with just 2 votes.

So starting in week 6 I will make a nomination thread first with all the eligible artists like we have now. Every voter can choose 15 artists to nominate. The top 12 (or so, depending on ties) will then be official nominees, and the next round of voting will be for each voter to pick 7 of those just from the nominee list in which the top 5 vote-getters will be enshrined into the CRF Hall of Fame.

I think we can handle that with the traffic we have here. My question is can we do both segments of a vote in 1 week, or should we spread it over 2 weeks? The first time it comes up will be around Christmas, so no matter what we decide, I am going to give 1 week for the nominations, and 1 week for the inductions. After that will depend on your feedback. If we do it all in 1 week, I will have the nomination panel open on Sunday afternoon, and close it Wednesday evening, then open the induction voting from Wednesday night until Sunday morning. Do you think enough people will stop by enough to vote in both segments? It's OK if we end up keeping it a week at a time. It will take longer, but I'm not going anywhere. Also, once the nominations are in, I could count straight votes, or we could rank them in order and assign points for a #1 ranking, #2 ranking, etc.

Anyway, I think this is the only viable way to have good accurate votes. Feedback on this issue would be much appreciated, and feedback on the whole project would be welcome as well. Thanks

You've given the matter a lot of thought, and put a lot of time and enthusiasm into your series of polls so far JTR.

I think two weeks would be a good time frame for each segment, this time of year people are busy and their routines are all over the place. That would give you a better window and more votes and give a better result.

Good luck no matter what you come up with.:hab:

Thanks LG. The one week spans so far have worked. We've had at least 14 voters each week so far, and the vast majority vote within the first 2 days. The last 3 days of the poll are usually pretty slow. Granted that Christmas week will be different, but after that we will be in that winter doldrums period where nothing much goes on. Sounds like you like the 1 week for nominations and 1 week for inductions though. Cool!

Patience is a virtue, I just think the longer you take to get the most people to stop and vote the better, when you do a massive series of polls linked with a singular theme they take on a life of their own usually.

Just my thoughts.

I like the idea of having nominations...There are too many eligible artists right now, and it's kind of hard to reel votes in to pick the most qualified.

I was also thinking that, to pretty up the list of inductees and emulate the real hall a bit, maybe we could pick users (or have them volunteer) to do short write-ups on the artists.

All of this might require a bit more forum participation than we currently have going, though.

^^^This.

Due to forum problems last week and other real-life things, I missed out on week 3. Not the end of the world by any means, but I agree, this is a very busy time of the year for a lot of people. I don't see any reason to rush though this as fast as possible and think it would be a good idea to give people more time to think about it and even get to it.

So it definitely sounds like a longer time frame doesn't bother people. Fine with me as well. Wasn't aware of site problems last week. Sorry Lynch.

Death On Credit. I hoped that the threads would take on a little more of a debate vibe with people stumping for their candidates (pleading, begging?), and write ups of cetain candidates would be a welcome addition. Certainly don't need my permission if somebody wants to write something up. It would be awesome in fact.

I won't make a decision yet, but it looks like 1 week for nominations and 1 week for inductions is the preferred choice so far. Keep in mind we started with voting in 1986. We have 25 years just to get up to the present, and there is really no reason we can't vote for future classes as well seeing that you probably don't really need the current 25 years of eligibility to know if somebody is Hall-worthy or not. Therefore at 2 weeks a pop a whole year has gone by. Again, that's fine by me, all I really care about is that there is good participation and people are enjoying it. Perhaps I could even start the nomination aspect next week.

What ever decision you come up with is fine by me. Great job so far.
