I think playing them would have the opposite, appreciating the vinyl quality should be what it is about, although I can understand why some would be reluctant to play or even take a really rare vinyl album out of its case.

I see. I can only really envision myself collecting Zep vinyl. I bet gcc could help me get some good deals. Otherwise it just seems like something I wouldn't be able to get into, being a part of the digital generation and all. :D

If I had a record player I would get Ac/dc albums on vinyl. But I don't and can hardly find any so Ill happily stick to CDs. :)

It's hard to find AC/DC vinyl in Australia? Seriously? I'm pretty sure in the UK they reissued a load on 180 or something, pretty recently. I almost certain I've seen brand new and sealed AC/DC vinyl over here. And they're much bigger in Australia than they are over here.

Its easy to find vinyl but not an actual player though. Might find some second hand but doubt it.

I don't really miss it too much because although I have to travel two hours I still dig into a great selection (c.d.s for me) at Newbury Comics and Bullmoose music. I haven't lost that experience! :)

Some of the best Saturday afternoon's in my life, man. That smell of cardboard as you walked in and the excitement of what you'd discover as you flicked through the racks.

There are still a few independent stores left in the UK, but they're increasingly dwindling. They're always be the odd record store because of the likes of us, but I have to say that I'm part of the problem given that I use almost exclusively MP3s now. However, someone put a pic of a Linn Sondek on another thread and it's making me think...Hmmm.
