I like that idea too, but as Sooty said, no cherry picking. For me, that means don't put one great song on an album and the rest are average at best. I think that artists need to tour to push their new album. But I also think that something should be done about the outrageous prices you have to pay to see a big act in concert. Something should be done about that life-force sucking Ticketmaster and ticket brokers. I paid over $4000 grand for two people to see Paul McCartney, but that is it for me as far as concerts go. It would be nice to get a free CD or album with the tickets, but then again that is never going to happen. :uh:

As far as Taylor Swift having three perfumes that is just plain greed. I'll never buy that crud. If Paul comes out with a men's cologne, I believe that would be sign the world is coming to an end. However, Paul does make money in the music publishing business which to me is smart.

Most of the time people think there's one good song because they are complacent to get spoon fed a single by the radio and not want to give the rest of the album a try. I rarely come across any albums only worth one good song. :)

I have had the opposite happen. I've heard an awesome song on the radio, and I bought the album, and it was horrible. :uh:

“For a lot of these pop acts, the music is just another piece in their product range,” one music agent told the Telegraph. Just ask Pharrell Williams and Daft Punk, whose 2013 hit spawned a brand of Get Lucky condoms.

:heheh: That's funny!!

What a load of crap. Yeah lily I wish I could take a few years off at 26 because I made a bundle in the music industry. Poor girl now she is going to have tour to make another million +. Yeah you don't make money on records, you make it touring. If her new album has one more hit she can tour big venues as be rolling in money.

Most half successful bands these days make a livable wage but someone like Lily makes more than thAt.

This! :grinthumb

Whiny pop artist that are more than comfortable and aren't hurting a bit! Check! :grinthumb

Whiny Aerosmith recently crying because they are still raking in the cash but not as much as their peak so they won't make another album unless we all pwomise (misspelling intentional) to buy it = Whiny veteran rockers! Check! :grinthumb

Whiny state of modern music "fan" sides with artist not making enough dough but doesn't want to buy albums anyway if they can hear/obtain the music for free and says they do it for the artist and against corporations! :heheh: Check! :grinthumb

Sounds about right! :grinthumb

One more thing that pissed me off in this article. Taylor swift has to have three perfumes? Yeah like that is where she is making her money, you mean Taylor spent the 20 million she made off the last tour. I saw her along around NYC last week she wasn't wearing rags and begging money.

If they ever made me buy the whole digital album when I buy off of iTunes, I would steal every new song I own for the rest of my life from that moment on. I call the pre-Itunes era the "Dark Ages of Music Buying" because having to buy an entire album for one good song is ludicrous. The best artists can make an album that's good almost all the way through, but even most of the best albums of all-time have at least one mediocre song. And there's no reason to discriminate against the artists who can only come up with a few great songs. I'm not going to spend $15 to get two great songs but in the digital era I get to appreciate midrange artists as well as the top tier.

And radio play has resoundingly nothing to do with it. I've always been resistant to new technology, only started buying digital a few years ago. For the overwhelming majority of my life I've been buying CDs and the overwhelming majority of CDs I own are bands or material you don't even hear on radio: classic rock bands that have become obscure since their prime, obscure metal bands, and edge-of-the-radar punk & alternative. I just don't think all songs are created equal. Just because a band can come up with a few good songs doesn't mean they can come up with more, and a lot of albums are full of filler.

It's just a different approach, that's all. I like variety. I'd rather have the two best songs from 200 bands than the 20 best songs from 20 bands. That way I get to explore a hell of a lot more styles, genres, and bands.
