How did you get into rock music? What's your story?

CKLW was a great station in those days! Did you ever pick up CHYR in Leamington?

No, Foxhound. I never heard it. I lived 40 miles west of Detroit. I listened to CK until sometime in '67, then I switched to Uncle Russ on WKNR-FM in Detroit when "underground" FM radio became the big thing.

Well, it was that my dad and mom moved us around ALOT..moved about 10 before I was ten ..Dad was in the Navy and then we just moved alot Not Sure Why ??


So, I was painfully shy.
and music kinda was my refuge as well as a way to define myself with new kids/new schools

Music always helped..
my parents listened to Elvis,Beach Boys,Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison, Nat King Cole, The Ventures, Alot folk music from early 60's like Peter,Paul and Mary..Kingston Trio, etc

My Grandad was a excellent musician .He could play anything..including the spoons. I listen to alot of Big Band stuff;Glenn Miller, Andrew Sister, Frank Sinatra...when Gran minded me ..we listened to alot of those Swing Era things and I STILL love them !

Then finally My older cousin introduced me to The Beatles and The Doors
and my older brother was into ANYTHING new/exciting : Alice Cooper.Kiss. , The Cars,The Police ..he was a huge influence !

He gave me my FIRST album : A Hard Days Night ...It was THE turning point.
I still have it too..it won't play lol..but i can't part with it

Heard the following three singles at a friend's house. Substitute, I Can't Explain and, The Kids Are Alright. I was hooked. I had to be around this stuff so I bullshitted my way into a part-time job at the local record shop. Five years later, I ended up working for WEA Records (Warner Brothers).

Both my parents came from very large family's.. My Dad was the youngest out of 9 kids.. My Mom is the fourth child out of five Brothers.. All my Aunts and Uncles have huge families.. Total amount of cousins I have in my immediate family is 18 boy's and 13 girls..
All my cousin except for one family lived close to each other and so lot's of weekly get together's..
So my exposure to ROCK was from my older cousins who were into a lot of sixties bands.. Plus my cousins all had guitars and drums and we would play all the time..
As far back as I can remember I would sit and listen to the radio and my parents were always dancing around to their 45's.
Music to me is like my strongest drug. Without it.. I go nuts..

I had a mum that had pretty atrocious taste in music - her two favourites were Cliff Richard and The Bachelors (I rest my case) - but a dad that listened to proper music So I was introduced to the likes of The Nice, Cream, The Who, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Sabbath, The Jeff Beck Group, Deep Purple, AC/DC and so on from an early age.
