Been listening to this band for a VERY long time. Love everything from the self titled debut ( 1970 ) right up to LEVITATION ( 1980 ) except Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music. After that it's hit and miss depending on your tastes. The 80's albums are patchy - CHOOSE YOUR MASQUES ( 1982 ) and THE XENON CODEX ( 1988 ) had their moments but pale in the shadow of the 70's hard hitters. They entered an interesting era with ELECTRIC TEEPEE and IT IS THE BUSINESS OF THE FUTURE TO BE DANGEROUS in the early 90's with a trancey/ambient influence creeping in but after that it,s a patchy mess as the 50 million or so ex-band members spent more time in court than on stage. Still an excellent live experience though. Everything between 70-75 is essential listening, after that proceed with caution!!

I do agree with all you say above Ege! I have been a fan of band since their beginnings in Notting Hill. I have all their albums plus a lot of bootlegs, video's etc. and I play the early albums more than the others. My favourite album is probably 'In Search of Space' and their live set on the Greasy Truckers album.

Great band I caught them at the Buxton Opera House last summer with Girlschool as guests. The visuals were brilliant and the music out of this world a stellar evening of hard rock and space rock.

One of my faves too Sox...I came a little late to the Hawkwind party though, but now I have most of their early albums, which I like the most of their discography.

Another one of those bands that has released an enormous amount of material, despite the near constant upheaval in the line-up.

I can't even say for certain if any of the founding members are in the band anymore...:dunno:
