A Guns N’ Roses fan named Darren Wright says he’s preparing legal action after being hit in the mouth by Axl Rose‘s microphone at the end of the band’s show on Saturday night (March 9) in Perth, Australia.
Wright says he was enjoying the finale when he was hit in the face. At first he thought he was punched — bright stage lights had impaired his vision. “I was quite stunned and it took a few seconds to realize what was going on,” he told the West Australian. “I could feel bits of teeth in my mouth. Then someone is climbing through my legs to grab the microphone.”
Wright told the newspaper that a dentist quoted him for over $5,000 worth of dental work to fix his damaged front teeth. He also suffered a cut lip, and was left with an exposed nerve in his mouth. He was given first aid treatment at the Perth Arena.
“Those cordless microphones are not light. I’m surprised it didn’t do more damage,” Wright said. “At the very least, I want someone to pay to get my teeth fixed.”
The 39-year-old pest controller is a longtime fan of the band’s and he had looking forward to the show. He first saw GNR 22 years ago, and saved up for the prime seats. Wright admits Rose likely didn’t intend to hit him, but he’s not settling for the offer made by the band’s tour promoter: an autographed microphone.
“In reality I don’t think the microphone is going to fix my teeth or pay for the dentist,” he said. “I’m a father of four on a single income doing it hard in Perth.”
Guns N’ Roses has four remaining shows in Australia before one in the United Arab Emirates and one in Beirut, Lebanon to finish the month of March.
