Slipknot are the most ridiculously over rated metal band around.

^^^ :grinthumb I just don't like the extreme headbanging stuff. Buuut, my mom's husband said I'm welcome to come over and rummage through his extensive metal collection and I've been thinking of doing it for awhile now. He's a huge fan of Maiden and always tries to get me into them. No such luck yet.

Aw, I like Maiden. They're metal but they're not the grating vocals/cookie monster metal which gets on my nerves.

As far as your comment on The Beatles, I'm gonna make a confession... I agree with you. I like some of their songs. I think they're absolutely adorable and charming. I am willing to acknowledge the impact they've had on modern music... but I'm not a die hard fan like some of the people here. Between my husband and I, he's more of the Beatle-maniac.

Which made me think of something that may be off topic here. You know what really gets on my nerves? Rabid fandoms. A friend of mine posted on Tumblr that she and her boyfriend felt that The Beatles were overrated. Some Fab Four fanatic reblogged her post and added the note "f--- you and your boyfriend." It's fans like that person that completely turn me off of The Beatles completely.

I just don't understand why people have to get so aggressive and rude just because someone doesn't feel the same way they do about a particular band. I've especially noticed that kind of behavior when it comes to The Beatles. Just because someone may not agree does not give that person the right to be a snobbish asshole about it.

There are some people here that rattled off bands here that I love that they don't care for. But you know something? I'm not gonna make a big fuss about it. In fact, I'm perfectly okay with it. We can all agree to disagree. It's like what Sunny said, we'd be living in a boring world if we all liked the same things. :heheh:

I couldn't agree more with everything you said LB, especially some Beatles fans (sorry to say that I've noticed that too with quite a few of them). It's like some (and I say SOME) of them feel the Beatles are entitled to be free of criticism, which no one is immune from. I've just always found their music to be incredibly bland and boring, as do a lot of the older people I know who were around in the times they were at their peak. There are some very nice fans of theirs though. I've always noticed a sort of Beatles/Led Zeppelin rivalry at times on here and in real life also. They're two of the biggest acts ever so it's natural I suppose, but comparing them is apples and oranges to me.

Yes, it is a shame that fans of bands really get worked up over criticism. I always had the attitude that you can't expect everyone to agree with you. I do my part in not flogging Zeppelin's music down people's throat. I do put up with schmucks who try to take shots at them just to get a rise out of me. THAT sort of tactic I find juvenile and sad.

Another issue too is that if you find an artist or musician up high in some subjective rankings which you would find surprising and ask if they are that good out of unfamiliarity and not in a snobbish/disrespectful way then you have their backers a bitl worked up. Funny how things can get stirred easily... At least this place isn't as hostile as other forums...that I have to say.

The Fab Four? Yeah, I like 'em but they are numero tres in my list. I don't get all the fuss over Sgt. Peppers myself.
