Is Elton John ready to call it quits? After saying he was done on Tuesday (July 15), he has apparently backtracked on his words only one day later.

ABC News Radio says that, while performing at the Festival de Carcassone in France, John told the crowd, “No more shows, no more music, no more songs.” He said that he was going to spend the rest of his time with his family, which is comprised of his partner David Furnish, and their two children, Zachary (3) and Elijah (18 months). However, a brief call to his representative set the record straight.

“He’s not retiring,” she said. The U.K. tabloid the Mirror also quoted his spokesman as saying, “Elton was only joking.”

Back in 1977, John announced that he was retiring, but it didn’t take hold, with the release of ‘A Single Man’ coming a year later. However, as recently as 2012, he said that he would consider quitting when Zachary, then his only son, began school.

John’s current European tour runs through the end of July. He will begin a month-long trek across North America in September, and will return to Europe in November. Elton John will close out the year with a show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Dec. 31. The full schedule can be found at his website.

:heheh:

I don't take any pronouncements from bands/artists that seriously when it comes to retiring, they have fooled us all so many times it's lost it's impact to me anyway.

Elton John spends money at a prodigious pace, he has no sense of money management and never has, he simply goes on tour or records a new album when his accountant tells him his bank account is getting low. I can see him giving the Rolling Stones a run for their money.:gg:

I don't think there really is a thing called "retirement" for rock stars. Maybe a band will break up but the musicians themselves so rarely call it quits for good. I'm sure Elton will be touring and probably recording until he darn well dies.

i wouldn't be so sure, elton's voice is pretty shot, and it's a question of how much longer he can remain a top dollar concert attraction. might just check him out on the fall gybr tour, who knows if it'll be the last.

I'd never believe for a minute that Elton would ever really seriously consider retiring.Music is way too much of what he is and represents............

I never believe it when a music artist says he (or she) is retiring. I saw The Who on their Farewell Tour in '82. Last I read Pete and Roger are currently gearing up for the next "farewell tour". Old rockers never retire, not while there's a buck to be made.

Watching a documentary about the most successful promoter in the music business right now opened my eyes about a lot of things that go on behind the scenes in music/entertainment.

Remember the Police tour...back in 2007 I think it was. The first tentative conversations between Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland involved a lot things including if there would be any interest in a world wide Police reunion tour. So when they hired Fogel to promote their tour they were apprehensive about whether tickets would sell or if people had forgotten about them. Turns out that not only were people excited they ended up playing in football stadiums to meet the demand. The funny part is within hours of rehearsing to get ready Copeland and Sting were already at each others' throats, they have never gotten along and making it through the full length of the tour itself was a minor miracle and I don't think there will be another Police tour ever again.

What's this got to do with Elton you ask?? Well Sting only wanted to put the Police together again to make stacks of money because his wife had almost spent his entire fortune so he needed to replenish his bank account.:oyea:

So like Bob D, Foreverblue and SDM have mentioned in the end it's as much about money as it is performing.
