Brian May isn't so virtuoso, like Eddie, but he's much more melodious guitarist, IMO. All in all, Brian is one of my two favourite guitar players (second is Ritchie Blackmore), so, he gets my vote.

If they were cars Eddie would be a hot rod with flames painted down the side, and Brian would be a Rolls Royce.

Brian is a more talented and diverse songwriter, and can come up with some unique tones and sound effects, but Eddie will be immortal for a few incredible riffs in his early years. Nobody but Eddie could have come up with Unchained.

I like Van Halen for some high energy unbridled rock, but Queen were the band that got me into music.

Brian May ...debut up until News To The World.
.
Eddie is an incredible player but I just prefer May and early Queen over all.

Brian May

Brian May

Eddie is technically superior and I do enjoy old Van Halen, especially the debut, but I prefer May's playing/sound and I consider Queen up there among my all-time favorite bands.

Brian May does it for me

Brian May and I don't just say that because Queen is one of my favourite bands. I like the quote above. He's a Rolls Royce and Eddie is a hot rod. Do love Eddies playing, though.

To be quite honest, I always thought Queen was the sort of band in which each musician was remarkably unremarkable.
