Great tune, I am listening to the Awake album. Got 5 Dream Theater albums for 20 bucks awhile ago like I did with Dokken, in an 'original album series' box.

I remember I was stoked waiting for the release of Awake after Images And Words (still my fav DT album) and was somewhat disapointed at the time though it has grown on me over the years. If your a fan of both of these albums Riff check out the s/t debut from O.S.I. Impressive line up: Kevin Moore from DT(Images And Words & Awake) and Mike Portnoy, Jim Matheos from Fates Warning and Sean Malone from Cynic and Gordian Knot. The next two releases aren't up to snuff as thier first IMO. Looking forward to thier new release which is supposed to be coming some time soon(?). Prog alternate metal would a generalization.

Damn how did I not see this reply?
That sounds like one hell of a line-up Ill check them out. :cheers2

Currently on the Falling into Infinity album, not my favourite but still decent.
My favourite tracks are Hells Kitchen and Lines in the Sand.

^Falling Into Infinity isn't one of my favorites of theirs, but it's decent enough prog to enjoy it for what it is. It's their earlier work and I always felt like their earlier work kinda lacked a bit.

Yeah something about the overall sound production was a bit lacking on this one, a bit bland. Not a lot of atmosphere to gain from this, I still enjoyed the music but didn't have that atmosphere effect like some of the earlier albums and the new one.
I will say this exploration of progressive music has been fun, I will continue to explore uncharted territory for me.

It's a pretty extraordinary different when you listen to their work on Images and Words and Systematic Chaos compared to Falling Into Infinity and other work. Though, it shows that they've definitely grown in terms of talent through the years. However, Images and Words is a pretty incredible album for earlier work.

This is a great album closer I’ll say. Going from heavier to acoustic and just going from there back to the heavier format was pretty cool.

The reason for all of this is because the record label pushed for them to be more commercial and "Falling From Infinity" is what popped out because of it. After it tanked compared to "Images and Words" and "Awake" however Dream Theater got all of the creative freedom they wanted and it came together beautifully on what I consider to be their opus still "Scenes From A Memory".

Also James had really hurt his voice just before recording this album which is why he is singing so much lower than on all of their others.

Commercial does certainly explain the sound, I still liked the album though.
Scenes from a Memory is the next album I will embark on.

Well I like the songs on "Falling From Infinity" but between James's vocals, the production, and label meddling I think it was just executed poorly.
