I always liked 70's R&B/Soul, but I never really warmed up to the Disco movement. Sure there were good songs here and there, but overall it just wasn't my thing. In 1979 I went to a Christmas party that a girlfriend's work threw at a nightclub in Hollywood. I have to admit that although the particular music played over the PA system that night wouldn't exactly have been my first choice, it was pretty cool to be in such a grown-up, adult atmosphere with an open bar and dancing to the likes of KC & The Sunshine Band, Donna Summer, Chic, The Commodores, Wild Cherry, The Silver Connection and probably even The Stones' "Miss You" thrown in for good measure.
There were two FM radio stations here in L.A. that played R&B/Soul/Dance/Disco as the decade progressed, and I would check them out occasionally, but at the beginning of the 80's it was evident the "No Disco" backlash was in full-force. At about the same time Steve Dahl's "No Disco" bonfire was taking place in centerfield at the White Sox game, I think Nikki Sixx was lighting himself on fire at The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
