Oh I agree completely. They have their place deep in the background, in some cases. I just love that SNL clip!

Of course, can you imagine something like Mississippi Queen without that cowbell in the beginning? Would still be a great song, but it works perfect in that intro.

True.. A few songs do benefit from the cow bell.. Don't Fear The Reaper being one of them.. The SNL snibbit was a hoot though..

Either I missed it but I'm surprised that no one has posted Harmonica playing.. It works well with Blues.. Like this one Plant does with Led Zeppelin..
