No. 25 Rory Gallagher.

The Irish guitar wizard gave us some of the best high energy blues/rock ever but equally he could lay down great country blues. For me though he was at his best when he gave the music that celtic twist. A man up there with the very, very best IMO.

Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band

Best album:

Bob_Seger_-_Night_Moves.jpg

I have no words to describe the influence Seger has had on my life. I grew up with his music and I didn't listen to much else in my early childhood.

#28 - Judas Priest

In my opinion, probably the 2nd most important and influencial band in all of Heavy Metal, only behind Black Sabbath. Formed in 1969 in Birmingham, England and still rocking out to this day. Their peak of popularity was probably in the mid 80's. Their main discography includes 16 studio album and 6 live albums:

1974 - Rocka Rolla
1976 - Sad Wings of Destiny
1977 - Sin After Sin
1978 - Stained Class
1978 - Hell Bent For Leather (US) / Killing Machine (UK)
1979 - Unleashed in the East
1980 - British Steel
1981 - Point of Entry
1982 - Screaming For Vengeance
1984 - Defenders of the Faith
1986 - Turbo
1987 - Priest...Live!
1988 - Ram It Down
1990 - Painkiller
1997 - Jugulator
1998 - '98 Live Meltdown
2001 - Demolition
2003 - Live In London
2005 - Angel of Retribution
2008 - Nostrodamus
2009 - A Touch of Evil: Live
2010 - British Steel - 30th Anniversary: Live

(just some of their album covers)

No greatest artists of all time and certainly no heavy metal list would
ever be complete without the original Metal Gods themselves.... Judas Priest

They were cast as a band for a network sitcom. Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz were actors with some musical experience. Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith were musicians on the folk circuit. They were given studio time, the best studio musicians in L.A. and songs by the best pop writers of the era. As their popularity exploded, they became dissatisfied with their vocals only roles in the studio and revolted. They ultimately got control of the music being released in their name. Along the way they did two seasons of an Emmy winning television show, an hour long T.V. special, concert tours and a cult movie co-written and co-produced by Jack Nicholson. They had four #1 albums, three #1 singles and they were the biggest selling musical act of 1967, outselling the Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined. They've influenced pop acts from the Bay City Rollers to the cast of "Glee". Their music is still heard on the radio today as well being used in films and on television. Hey Hey, they're the Monkees.

30 - QUEEN

How did we get this far without mentioning QUEEN? Another band that doesn't need a lot of explanation IMO. Simply my all time favorite rock band and certainly belong on any list of greatest and top rock bands ever. Who'd have thunk it that a singer/piano player/front man with a diploma in art and graphic design, a guitar playing candidate for a Ph.D. in astronomy, a bass player with a degree in electronics and a drum playing dental student would get together and form such brilliance in music?

A little Bohemian Rhapsody anyone?

Queen (1973)
Queen II (1974)
Sheer Heart Attack (1974)
A Night at the Opera (1975)
A Day at the Races (1976)
News of the World (1977)
Jazz (1978)
Live Killers (1979)
The Game (1980)
Flash Gordon (1980)
Hot Space (1982)
The Works (1984)
A Kind of Magic (1986)
The Miracle (1989)
Innuendo (1991)
Made in Heaven (1995)
