I think it'd be easy to say this:

I do love that one and think it fits the thread but over time I've always thought this was the greatest adaptation Cash has done:

If You Could Read My Mind


I think Cash's vocals have a vulnerability that the original never had. It serves the song even more than Hurt. When he's talking about how the feelings gone you know he's talking to his deceased wife. This becomes the tale of a sad man just waiting to pass and see his wife again. His vocals crack, quiver and contains more purpose and emotion than the original.

Just listening this tonight and listening to the original I really feel the Frente one really enhances the original. I apologize to anyone who likes that style but this is a song that is enhanced once the 80's excess is brushed off.
