I heard one song from the new album and some of the guitar playing on it sounded just like The Edge .......... uncanny.

Yes ILJP, it's getting talked about a lot here. I was watching a recent interview with Chris Martin and he was asked if he gave to charity and apparently the band donates 10% of their earnings. It will probably be written off as some kind of tax thing but still ................ great thing to do

They're not everyone's cup of tea here but I'm just glad there are a few that appreciate them! I've loved them ever since Parachutes.

I really like a lot of bands that are not everyone's cup of tea here. That's OK though ............... just adds to the rich tapestry of musical life

This may be a very biased opinion, but I honestly have a hard time understanding why people don't like at least one song by Coldplay. There are far worse bands out there still making music, and they get far more recognition than they deserve, whereas Coldplay gets a lot of hate and a lot of "Coldplay is pretty much the worst band in existence" type stuff. People have opinions, I understand that, but some of them I really just do not understand. At all.
Guess this sort of acts as the opposite of my opinion I stated in the Radiohead thread. Oh well, I stick to my point.

I suppose it always has and always will surprise me how close minded people can be when it comes to music. It's one of the most enormous growing things in the world and there are people who have to set up a certain basis for it. Doesn't make any sense to me, mainly for the fact that they are missing out on a bunch of great music.

Coldplay is one of the best bands of the new millenium by far! The hate they get is something I really can't understand and probably never will. You may not like them ... But they clearly aren't one of the worst bands in existence.
