I must be getting behind on my Coldplay love because my sweet hipster cousin brought this song to my attention today. Paradise is the second single release from Coldplay's upcoming album Mylo Xyloto. This song, at least to me, has a completely different feel to it than any other song I've heard by the band. I like the direction so far this album is going in from what I've heard it. It took me a little bit to warm up to Every Teardrop is a Waterfall and this song solidifies my belief that Mylo Xyloto will be a good buy. I really dig the almost orchestral intro and the rest of the song has sort of a mixture of that element with almost an electric feel to it. I can see some similarities based on the singles released thus far to Viva la Vida but, true to Coldplay fashion, this album will most likely be completely different from their previous ones. Each of their albums showcase a different style and are true testaments to the evolution of the band over the past 10+ years. I can't wait for the 24th! :grinthumb

Paradise

Hey Jen, the first single off this didn't really get me overly excited but after reading your hard sell above for this song I was intrigued and I'm glad because this song IMO alone is better than anything off the last two albums. It IS different for them! :grinthumb I love orchestra anyway but I really like the way they opened this and BAM at :35 they hooked me. This reminds me in parts of another band you like, One Republic. Like you pointed out in that thread One Republic has a way of making good pop orchestral arrangements as they use a variety of those instruments. The melodies and transitions here make me think of One Republic but I definitely still know it's Coldplay. It's like they fused a little. Can you hear it? :) Good song! Thanks for sharing! :cheers2

I can see the OneRepublic resemblance somewhat. Honestly, when I'd heard this song for the first time I thought it was sort or reminiscent of something from X&Y (my favorite Coldplay album). I think Paradise has a tiny trace of that urban thumping feel that OneRepublic adds to a lot of their music.

Coldplay has consistently evolved from their first album but on this new album I'd love to hear something along the lines of Kingdom Come. I love that soft acoustic feel that they subtly added to the end of that album (you wouldn't know it was there if you didn't let the album play the whole way through to the hidden track). You don't see that side of Coldplay very often as most of their music is of the driving, fast-paced influence since A Rush of Blood to the Head they've seemed to keep with that formula somewhat in their albums and tweaked it to make each song fresh and unique.

There are some of the new songs on YouTube but I question their authenticity as some of them sound horrid in terms of sound quality. I'll wait until the 24th and get my copy and until then I'll only trust in their official releases.

This pretty much sums up anything I ever would say about Coldplay. I have every release they've ever er...released, and listening to them back to back, you can tell that they have evolved with each album. Some songs are duds, but overall, they stick to their marbles and make great music.

So iTunes is streaming one song per day from the new album until its release, and tonight I got to preview "Us Against the World" and it made me even more excited for the new album! One of my top ever Coldplay tracks is "Kingdom Come" and the new one has that same simple, stripped feel that I appreciate about that song and Chris Martin shows off his beautiful pipes in this one as well. Definitely reminds me of something that would have been featured on Parachutes or A Rush of Blood to the Head and not that fast-paced formula they've been going with on their last two albums. I have a hard time finding it on YouTube as of yet (besides live versions which DO NOT do it justice) so check it out on iTunes. :grinthumb

Oh morning come bursting, the clouds, they move
Lift off this blindfold, let me see again
And bring back the water, that your ships rode in
In my heart you left a hole

The tightrope that I’m walking just sways and ties
The devil as he’s talking with those angel’s eyes
And I just want to be there when the lightning strikes
And the saints go marching in

And sing slow-ow-ow-ow it down

Through chaos as it swirls
It’s just us against the world

Like a river to a raindrop, I lost a friend
My drunken as a Daniel iin a lion's den
And tonight I know it all has to begin again
So whatever you do, don’t let go

And if we could float away
Fly up to the surface and just start again
And lift off before trouble
Just erodes us in the rain (x3)

Sing slow-ow-ow-ow it down
Oh Slow-ow-ow-ow it down

Through chaos as it swirls
It’s just us against the world
Through chaos as it swirls
It’s us against the worl

I was only able to preview Paradise. Not a bad song, but I wasn't able to hear the song you mentioned.

Here's a nice article I found by (I'm assuming) a critic at MTV. Apparently "Princess of China" is the collaborative effort on the album featuring Rihanna. I like Rihanna. I love Coldplay. But together? It's like serving tacos with mashed potatoes or something. Coldplay is not usually one for collaborations so I'll have to see how this one pans out. :bonk:
