Bat III was a fantastic album,what killed it was the first single was that Steinman song that Celine Dion had made popular....not good.

How can you go wrong with that? Is it even possible to do a worse version than Celine? just because a horrid person sings it doesn't mean the song itself is bad and had no potential! That song was meant for Meatloafs style from the start IMO!

I think he can defy the odds because there are a lot of folks with good memories of Bat I. It was an album that made you feel young. If he can make this last album one that you can sing driving down the road with your windows down then he'll have a winner.

Make a majestic yet SIMPLE album like Bat Out Of Hell was....you know 35 to 40 minutes in length...maybe 7 or 8 REALLY good songs. Do it with Jim.

Too much information for alot of new fans when you're over an hour in length. Just my opinion.

Meatloaf needs more quality and less quanity.

Yes, I think that'd be his best chance at doing it again. I really like "Bat III" but I think that even though it had several of Jim's songs his lack of involvement in the album overall really held down what it could have done.

That's the song that got me into Meat Loaf and I totally love it.

I think he can rise again, but it will definitely need Steinman in the mix. Meatloaf is appealing to new audiences and for various reasons.......his face is popping up in all kinds of media like commercials.....so he is gaining some popularity

That is assuming Jim Steinman hasn't run out of ideas. Seeing that Meat was using Steinman songs in the 1990's/2000's that Jim wrote or recorded himself back in the 70's/80's, I question whether Steinman has actually been writing anything of note over the past 10-15 years or if he is just signing over stuff from 25-30+ years ago.

What I mean is that Bat II/Bat III were both using crusty old Steinman songs from his own solo album or stuff already recorded/charted by other artists.

What good is working with Steinman if he ain't got any NEW ideas left?

^^I went with "Yes but only with Jim Steinman" and will add Aero's well thought out point as well, it all depends on Jim Steinman's pen and paper...if he can put together another thematic album like Bat I, then certainly lightning can strike again.

The fans have not gone anywhere, most of them are my age now and would check out anything the two of them put together and released.

I am not a Huge Meatloaf fan, but Cosmic has gotten me to enjoy the first Bat album more now than when I bought it. And after seeing a documentary about the making of the record with Steinman I gained a great deal of respect for Jim and Todd Rundgren.

You bring up some very good points Aeroplane. The reason Jim has been reusing older songs from his "Bad for Good" and "Original Sin" albums is because he's said how proud he is of the songs on those albums, they just didn't have the proper vehicals to bring them to life. That's why most (if not all) of them have been rerecorded at some point. It's my understanding that Jim is the kind of man that would rather his projects go down in flames than not get started at all.

If think if Meat and Jim could let bygones be bygones then the man behind the music might get the right inspiration to churn out some gems.

Steinman needs to re-invent a little bit...he does sort of sound the same.

Now these are two GREAT songs that he wrote...but replace them with Meatloaf's voice. It works...





In fact I wouldn't mind seeing/hearing Meatloaf re-record either of THESE two.
