I also broadcast on Grooveshark,90% of the time no one listens. :pullhair:

The most I ever had was 15 listeners on Labor Day weekend. Since then pretty much nothing. :uh:

I guess they don't appreciate good music!! :gig

Heya guys! I Saw the tittle "Broadcasts" so I had to click! hehe

If I could give any advise it would be:

1- Get an avatar image that would best represent your broadcast (your style), preferably an image that would be popular for some reason (ie: the one I have with DarthVader Rocking out);

2- Play what you like even if there are negative comments in chat, but if a song gets -10 "likes" you should consider not playing it;

3- Don't answer trolls in chat or negative comments, whatever you say, its not worth it.. after all it is their opinion, you will always get someone that does not like the song being played.

4- Do not play too many fast or slow-paced songs in a row, try to alternate between fast and slow. I usually play a slow song after 2 or 3 fast ones.
The point of this is to not get the listeners tired of the pace of songs.

5- Research online what others play: from Radio Stations, Music Websites, etc.

6- You do not have to play only the genre of music you chose on the Grooveshark broadcast options. Similar or from the same "family genres" can be combined. (ie: I play rock, metal, blues, soul and funk);

7- Leave your Broadcast ON 24/7 if you can. If you can't, tell your listeners before you stop it and when you will be on again;

8- I do not advise to asking users to follow you or to advertise on other broadcasts, people don't like "Try Hards" (This is only my opinion);

9- Do not be shy with the "follow button", It is ok to have more users on your "Following List" than on the "Followers List".. that is what I did at the start atleast;

10- To be noticed you have to be visible. If there are allot of broadcasts on your genre list make one or two Clone/Fake Listeneres by opening another tab or browser. This way you will be visible for users without them having to scroll down the page to see your broadcast.

This is what comes to mind, I hope it helps.

I have checked out some people's broadcasts here on this forum as well as some other places I used to visit and I think that probably the single-biggest 'problem' with getting a big listening audience is quite simple:

There are WAAAAY too many options out there for listening to online/streaming music. If someone doesn't like one song, it's VERY easy to 'change the channel' so to speak. Out of sight, out of mind. People want to listen to what they want to listen to, which is part of why so many people start their own stations (I believe), that way they can listen to their own favorites.

For those that are trying to get a listening audience, I really don't know what to tell you. I once had my own 'station' on Yahoo Launchcast, later named Launch, later disolved by Yahoo, later came back to Yahoo in a different form, etc etc. I put a lot of time and effort into that simply for my own listening pleasure. I didn't really control the songlist, just the overall/entire playlist, so a slightly different beast.

Anyway, for me, I typically listen to what I want to listen to when I'm online. Whether it be youtube or something similar. If I want to pick and choose a lot of songs, I'll plug in an external hard drive and grab a slew of songs, throw them into a temp directory and randomize it. If I want to listen to a full album, I do that in smililar fashion, only no randomizing.

*(shrug)*

Wish ya all the best, but I think that the streaming market is SO saturated and watered down, and with people having the attention span of a hamster, it's tough to keep anyone in one place for any length of time.

I respectfully disagree with you Lynch :p
It is difficult to attract listeners but not impossible. Just takes time and dedication. At least from my own experience.. I started with 10 or 20 listeners and after a few months I had 500 listeners at peak hours.
Nowadays on working days, I get around 1300 listeners at peak hours.

People appreciate Grooveshark as a music and social plataform, and the number of users is constantly growing. This sounds too much like advertising but I do not work for them hehe.
