Blind Guardian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Feel free to just read their wiki page because from here on this thread will only become more and more subjective and spiced with anecdotes I gathered along the years.. (to sum up their wiki: power metal, themes like lord of the rings, concept albums, great influence in power metal, Demons and Wizards (which is Blind guardian + Iced earth))
Example of subjectivity: Blind Guardian is easely one of the best, if not the best, power metal band out there.
Example of anecdote: the above image is a poster I had hanging next to my bed for ages... Until I finally grew up and passed along the flag to a younger nephew.
Their albums:
#Twilight# Battalions of Fear (1988)
# Follow the Blind (1989)
# Tales from the Twilight World (1990)
# Somewhere Far Beyond (1992)
# Imaginations from the Other Side (1995)
# Nightfall in Middle-Earth (1998)
# A Night at the Opera (2002)
# A Twist in the Myth (2006)
# At the Edge of Time (2010)
# Beyond the Red Mirror (2015)
Where would I advise you to start? With their live album! Iron maiden, Iced earth and Blind guardian's live albums are amongst THE BEST live albums ever.
For example, listen to this song, it's called the bard song.
I've sang my share of bard songs at their live shows... and I have to say... one feels mighty singing in a crowd of 500 people. It's a feeling that cannot be compared to anything else. It's better then sex.
(ok, I'll take that back, it is equal to sex )
What you might have missed is the power metal element in that song, so here's one to make up for your loss:
Mirror Mirror Live
At one concert the audience was going crazy... It was a private concert, the only place where one could buy tickets was at a big metal festival a month before the private concert. And it wasn't advertised over there, only on the BG website... It was their plan to just contact the die hard fans of metal and blind guardian.. and it worked. A room filled with 300 souls breathing and drinking blind guardian as a way of survival.
The result: great show and the loss of my voice for almost a week.
(They played the bard song 2ce because the audience wouldn't stop singing it after the first time...)
And to end this post: an overkill off youtube vids... All these songs are great... I suggest you at least listen to Lord of the rings... But it isn't a typical BG song, so if you want to get a better feel of the band, pick one of the others...
