There were tons of great metal albums released in 80's IMO. And I'm not talking about that pop-"metal " stuff like Poison etc. I was never into that stuff at all but the real metal stuff is the golden era of the genre as far as I am concerned.

:grinthumb Agreed (verbatim)

LG .. Saxon are a fine example of the great metal mentioned above and deserve to be up there with the best IMO.

The Best in my opinion:

Pixies (undeniable influence on later rock music and they hold some of the best album in alternative rock), Smiths (Morrissey effing rules), The Clash, The Police and I am probably forgetting some others, but I'll come back with those later.

^^Here's a band I like more now than when I first heard them back in the 80's. For some reason many people don't give them a second thought, but in my books they are right up there with Maiden and Priest.

I have that original on vinyl LG, from back in the day. :D
Here are some local heroes, the singer, Nev, went on to
form the band 'SKIN'.

Lou Reed and Tom Waits did some amazing stuff in the 80's. Warren Zevon had a couple of good albums in the decade, and Leonard Cohen had a few good songs. Generally speaking, it was a pretty abysmal decade.

Lou Reeds was brilliant.
Others... well, AC/DC did the hell of a great job in the 80s and Gn'R were also on top of the list. I shouldn't forget mentioning Bon Jovi either.

I agree....I was sticking to the 'poppier' side :grinthumb

If we're talking about 80s pop, the folllowing standouts come to mind:

Peter Gabriel
Paul Simon
The Smiths
Talking Heads

If we're talking about hard rock, then it's:

AC/DC
Rush
Van Halen (the original incarnation)
