I hope Amazon Obliterates Apple...they offer downloads and more importantly CD's, DVD's, vinyl, cassettes, 8 tracks, reel to reels...you get the picture.

Apple = the Evil Empire...it's just too bad Luke Skywalker wasn't around to do something about this situation.:D

Personally, I don't care for either of these evil empires. Amazon shows so much promise on some music title pages, and other ones, they fail so miserably. Chances of me purchasing a digital dl from amazon about 1000 to 1 over itunes, but that's because I just hate iTunes more than words can describe, not because Amazon is so incredible, cuz it's not.

I don't know...so far ANYTHING I've ever wanted a hard copy of I was able to get through Amazon where other stores have failed.

Although you know who rocks for in store orders? Barnes & Noble :grinthumb

I have gotten a lot of hard to find CD's off Amazon. and for used I prefer them over e-bay myself.

There are plenty of excellent CD stores online now, between them all I don't think I'll ever need to do business with Apple.:nw:

^^did you guys even read the mini-article?????

Amazon is starting a music stream service, where they will be hosting music files uploaded by users. Users can access these files at anytime through their computer or other music devices (like a smart phone).

Pretty bold move actually, when you think about all the hoopla over piracy.

I glanced at it...but I only use Amazon for CD's...I am not interested in downloads or streaming, but for those that are then it's a good thing barring complications.

I won't be surprised in the least if there are legal issues over their streaming content, honestly though all these lossy type services have no interest to me with the possible exception of using them in a forum like ours when you can't find anything to use as an example for a new band or new song release.

Actually, I believe this is a good move for people who like to download. Amazon is atleast acknowledging the fact that the music industry is going digital and the internet is the future of music!!

I think this is a really good thing for Amazon to do for I am also a continuous user of Amazon, my only fear is that they don't go and become a music streaming business. They can do the music streaming and downloading all they want, but I still want to be able to purchase my hard copies of CD's from them. I don't trust a lot of other online stores, and it's easier than going to the record store every day.

As for Apple, I see no problem with them either. I've purchased a lot of my albums off iTunes, and have gotten pretty good quality and deals every time. I mean...I just got the Amon Amarth 2011 album and The Sword 2010 album, both combined under 25 bucks.

The problem LG and I have with Apple is they are selling at such a low bit rate for your money. When playing off a hard copy you get the best possible sound (and then you can rip to your computer if you wish at a high bit rate), where Apple is ripping off its customers by charging the same or more for a format that is much less quality (128kb/s for a 99 cent song). (though they claim you can't tell the difference between 128 and anything higher of course!)
To counter that for example I can rip lossless with my Zune software for 470-940kb/s, and have a lossless format.
And here's the thing. When I buy a hard copy, I have the choice of the quality I want to rip my cds at. I personally have my collection on my computer to rip at 192kb/s, so I can have decent sound and fit most of it on my Zune. Going to all this digital, it takes away that choice and forces you to go with whatever bitrate they give you at whatever price they want to charge. (which will go up and up and up)
I'll take hard copies any day over digital.
/rant off
sorry LOL back to the topic, I hope everything goes well for amazon, but this streaming business doesn't really agree with me for some reason... just don't like EVERYTHING going to the internet and have you latched on to these company's *******....
