Re: Alice Cooper ~ March 2010 Band of the Month

Just thought I'd add a bit of my own continuation to this by saying that Alice is recording again. From what I've read he has already recorded 10 demos for his next album which will be called "The Night Shift". Nothing else much to report right now.

Re: Alice Cooper ~ March 2010 Band of the Month

Great News here's a recent interview from the Toronto Sun & at the end he esplains the concept for 'Night Shift':

Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie are a match made in heaven. And hell.

“It’s heaven for me and hell for him, probably,” cracks the 62-year-old Coop, who is about to join forces with Zombie on the Gruesome Twosome tour.

“It’s a great idea,” says Cooper of the shock-rock double-bill, which skips around Canada this spring and summer. “Rob is like my little brother. We’re so connected when it comes to our styles. Both our shows are so theatrical, it will almost look like they run into each other. It’s really going to be fun.”

En route to their opening gig in Winnipeg, the mascara-loving icon and longtime golf addict opened up about the bad old days, his dark new album and how this tour is going to kill him.

Is there a friendly rivalry between you and Rob?

I think we both know who’s the student and who’s the teacher (laughs). But I really do respect Rob — I’ve always said his show is like a tattoo parlour coming to life. And what I like about Rob that I don’t find in anybody else’s show is a sense of humour. The only other band I can think of with a sense of humour is GWAR. Most of the other bands are trying to be so heavy and so scary. We can be scary too, but there’s humour. It’s a good match.

You must have had some bad matches over the years.
Oh yeah. Back in the early days, there were the strangest bills. It would be Alice Cooper, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Melanie. Or us, John Lee Hooker and The Mamas and Papas. You’d go, ‘What?! What can this crowd possibly have in common?’

What can the crowd expect from you this time?

This is a brand-new show. It’s actually the most produced show we’ve done in quite a while. Rob Roth, who did Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, directed it. I asked him to shake it up and put me in situations where I have to stretch. So the first thing he did was for the song Only Women Bleed. At the end of the song, a nurse is laying in my lap. I throw her off, rip off her uniform — including her wig — put it on, and end up standing on a garbage can with a noose around my neck. And then I sing I Never Cry, standing on the garbage can. And at the end, I sing the very last line: ‘And you know I never cry, I never ... ‘ But before I can say the last word, she kicks the garbage can out and I hang. It’s my favourite part of the show.

Is that the only time they kill you?

They kill me four times — they hang me, they cut my head off, they put a giant hypodermic needle in me, and they put me in this box with these giant spikes that go through me. And of course, Alice keeps coming back.

You’re one of the only people who could put on such a violent show without being protested.

It’s so vaudevillian. And what makes it work is that the songs are done sincerely. I’ve told the band to look dead serious. I don’t want any smiling up there. The humour comes from the absurdity of what we’re doing.

Any plans for a new album?

Ten songs are written already. It’s going to be called The Night Shift. The concept is, it’s a really dark radio show where I’m the disc jockey, and every song I play will be by a different fictitious band. At some point, you’ll realize this disc jockey is a little bit more than that. And I’m sure there will be some kind of a twist ending.

Are you going to get Zombie out on the golf course during this tour?

I doubt I will ever get him out on the links. But we’ll probably watch a lot of movies. I always bring 100 or 200 DVDs of ridiculously bad horror movies on tour. So on days off, I imagine we’ll be doing that.

Re: Alice Cooper ~ March 2010 Band of the Month

Here's probably the earliest article on Alice Cooper(the Earwigs) from their high School days at Cortez HS:

CHS Students Creators Of New Singing Group
Author: Nancy Prince

"Last night I ran four laps for my coach."
And thus began the colorful career of five CHS students - Dennis Dunaway, John Speer, John Tatum, Glenn Buxton, seniors, and Vincent Furnier, junior. They call themselves the Earwigs.
"Speer and Vince and I were all on the track team last year," remarked Dennis Dunaway, "and we used to make up words to Beatle songs to keep us in rhythm when we were running around the track. One day I stopped and said, 'hey guys, lets get together adn start a new singing group.' We saw Glenn and Tatum playing guitars and asked them if they'd like to join."
And that was it?
Well, not quite. According to Dennis, the job offers didn't start "pouring in" until they got their manager, Nick Sataslow.
"We aw this guy riding down the street on a bicycle one day so we yelled at him and asked him if he'd like to be out manager. By the next day, he had a bunch of jobs lined up for us."
"Speaking of 'bunches' at first we were thinking of calling ourselves Joe Banana and the Bunch. our motto - Music with a-peal."
"But we decided that Earwigs was better."
Extra added attractions of the Earwigs are their shocking yellow jackets and black turtle neck sweaters that they wear at performances.
"We grew 'em," remarks John Speer to interrogation as to where they came from.
"Really though," conradicted Dennis, "we had them tailor-made and we designed them ourselves."
Another amazing feature of the Earwigs is that three of them have been playing musical instruments for only about two weeks.
"We figured that there would be to omany guys if we had to hire musicians to play for us. So Speer started learning how to play drums and I took up bass guitar and Vince, well, he's learning to play harmonica," said Dennis.
The extraordinary subtle humor displayed by the Earwigs isn't accidental.
"We write some of our own stuff, but most of it is a combination of 'original' and Smothers Brothers," Dennis said.
"As for future plans, the group will probably stay together after we graduate. But - who knows?"

Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper Announce Horror Show Of A Tour
02/22/10 1:30pm

by Kate Harper (CHARTattack)

Arguably, nobody's influenced Rob Zombie more than Alice Cooper.

Cooper, the original horror rocker, has left an obvious mark on Zombie, who's been making horror movie-inspired rock since his days in White Zombie in the '90s. Cooper has appeared in horror films like 1984's Monster Dog, and Zombie's also gone on to a successful career as a horror movie director.

Despite all these similarities and their friendship, the two have never toured together. Until now.

Cooper and Zombie will head out on a brief North American jaunt dubbed The Gruesome Twosome Tour beginning April 26 in Winnipeg and ending May 4 in Casper, Wy. Dates in Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver are also on the itinerary.

Tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster and Live Nation Friday (Feb. 26), but are available in a Ticketmaster presale beginning Tuesday (Feb. 23) at 10 a.m. CST, MST and PST.

"The dream or nightmare comes true! Me and The Coop have been talking
about touring together for about 15 years and finally the moment is here," Zombie said, according to Blabbermouth. "This will be without a doubt a rock 'n' roll spooktacular for all the cool ghouls."

"It's sort of like Dracula vs. Frankenstein, we're like this generation's classic monsters," Cooper said, according to the website. "When we're not on stage frightening audiences, we'll be backstage trying to scare each other."

Zombie is out in support of his recently released Hellbilly Deluxe 2 album, while Cooper is touring behind 2008's Along Came A Spider.

I don't know...for some reason the pairing doesn't work for me. Not that I dislike Rob Zombie...he's okay at what he does. But the Coop is a LEGEND. Rob's whole schtick is nothing like Cooper's. Which doesn't necessarily mean it would not go over well. In fact, the dynamic is probably pretty good for younger zombie metal fans who are not all that familiar with Alice's body of work.

I wonder if he's gonna get his head cut off or hung by a rope?

Re: Alice Cooper ~ March 2010 Band of the Month

I was supposed to see Rob Zombie with Ozzy Osbourne a couple years ago in Cleveland but Ozzy canceled the show at the last minute. So I used the money they gave us back to go to Playhouse Square and see the Broadway musical Avenue Q. :heheh:

(For those of you who don't realize how extra hilarious this is I basically traded seeing two of the most controversial men in metal for a Tony away winning Broadway musical about puppets that sing about love, racism, and porn. :heheh:)

But I wouldn't mind seeing Rob if he was pared with Alice. Not really a huge Rob Zombie fan but I saw Alice two summers ago and after seeing that show I'd go see him even if he had the Jonas Brothers with him. (With any luck Alice would kill them in the show ;))

That's certainly a contrast of sorts! :heheh:

And if the Jonas Brothers were in a room full of thousands of Alice Cooper fans, I wouldn't be surprised if they got killed in real life too! ;)
