Aero, you are quite the pessimist. Forget the pop charts and MTV. There is plenty of good music being made today.

Adele would have scored big in any era, for example.

Unfortunately that pessimism comes with getting older.

I would probably agree that Adele could make it big back then. She's probably one of the only pop singers today that I actually like but she'd still sound much better with better studio musicians behind her.

So sure, if you're talking about just singers based on their vocals, I'd say she'd be huge in the 70s too. But that's only because she'd have talented studio musicians working with her providing better music to accompany the vocals vs whatever they use in today's productions.

I can name more, but I'll stick to one for now - The Black Crowes
The Black Crowes - Remedy (sorry for it being a MTV2 clip)

^ I've never seen Graveyard. I'm not aware that they've played in these parts. Where did Sox, Sweaty and Lou see them live?

I think Ben Folds could've been a successful singer/songwriter similar to Elton in the 70's. That's just my opinion but he's a piano playing storyteller who likes to flesh out character studies with a unique sense of humor. Granted he came before the 2,000's but not when it comes to his solo work. I think he's an artist who doesn't fall under the category of compromise that people like to throw around either.

I think of a lot of artist that just have music I would transcend time as music you can feel is universal but I'll let that one settle and be supported or pissed on for now! :heheh:

What about Lana Del Rey? I feel she would make an impact.

No. What you can do technically is one thing. But without soul?

Please. I think very few performers today would even last at amatur hour on any respectable stage in the 60s. They didn't settle for dry technical proficiency and in fact very few of todays performers even have that.

So a Heavy Metal guitarist from 2012 wouldn't blow the minds of someone in the 70's. The sounds would be new to them.

^^I think there are a few of the very best guitarists today that would make an impression even back in the 60's.

However, I do believe that artists from the 60's-90's were better live performers, without any gimmicks or gadgets like Lip syncing and the dreaded auto-tune. Back then if you weren't good live you never got noticed or signed to a contract, the era of corporate muzak had not arrived in force yet.
