The Bay City Rollers and Wrong Direction (or whatever they're called...) were/are simply hyped up boy bands whose promoters mentioned the Beatles to put them on the musical map, or to put it a more cynical way deflect the attention from the mediocrity oozed by their music.

Oasis is the one band on this list who I can truly understand being described as the next Beatles - the Beatles had a very clear influence on the Gallagher brothers and their music and although they are not one of my favourites they are a proper band, not some bubblegum rubbish.

Having said that though - not sure whether you can read this article outside the UK but if you can then if you're not an Oasis fan I think it's worth reading (particularly if you happen to be an audiophile too) and is not as partisan as its title suggests:

Fair point, I must admit as a non-fan myself it's easy to get a bit glib, and of course an article titled 'how rubbish were they' is going to be biased, although I felt that the article was more than just 'Oasis are just terrible, end of' as at least he actually attempted to explain his reasons for disliking the band's music.

If you're a fan I wouldn't bother reading the article, but I think it might be interesting for those who aren't.

He did explain his point very well. I'm not really a fan. I don't hate them, but they are not something I would buy. :)

:omg:

You've gone soft on them, LG?! I never thought I'd see the day. Next thing I know you're be giving Axl and Prince pardons. :D

To call oneself the next Beatles is pretty darn arrogant but to be fair....the Bee Gees and Oasis have experiences quite a bit of success in their own right, particularly Oasis. Every single one of their albums went to #1 as did a solid two dozen of their singles. Like it or not, those are some impressive credentials.

Well 'softened' would be a better way to describe my Oasis feelings nowadays, I mean I still don't own any of their albums, but once I put aside my anti-Gallagher brothers bias...:D....then I can listen to one of their albums.

As far as Axl goes......when Hell freezes over I'll consider taking him off my s**t list and Prince is still in the outhouse, anyone that can record something as gawd awful as "Raspberry Beret"...well enuff said. :nw:

You say that now but I still have hope that at least Axl can get off of your shit list. If you can give the Gallaghers a pass then I think anything is possible at this point. ;)

And I like "Raspberry Beret"....:heheh:

Those are impressive credentials. They had all that success in Great Britain, right? They were nowhere near that popular here in the U.S.

I don't know much about the other bands but I would like to chip in about the Bay City Rollers. I will say this though about all these bigger-than-Beatles claims. (Imho) No band will ever be bigger/better/whatever than the Beatles. They set the mark and all the other bands have followed behind. Note that I am not a total Beatles lover yet I still give them the respect and credit they deserve. If you think about their influence and how wide spread it is... wow... incredible. Again, that is just like, my opinion man XD.

The Bay City Rollers... as big... as the BEATLES :oyea: I'm so glad it was their managers doing the bragging and not the band members themselves (or was it 0_0 and which ones out of their past like, 30, no seriously look it up XD XD) Don't get me wrong,I like the Bay City Rollers, imo they had a happy go lucky feeling about them. (<<I'm sure someone somewhere has said that EXACT thing about the Beatles XD whoops.) At times though they were a little bit too "Pop" for my tastes yet I still enjoy their music. I thought they were from Georgia 0_o (Or maybe that was John Fred and His Playboy Band) Point is, the "new" Beatles they were NOT.

I don't have any disrespect against The Beatles but I have no desire, want or need for another Beatles anyway! The world in music has been spinning just fine to my ears since anyway! :)
