Jonny Come Lately
The New Kid In Town
The Bay City Rollers and Wrong Direction (or whatever they're called...) were/are simply hyped up boy bands whose promoters mentioned the Beatles to put them on the musical map, or to put it a more cynical way deflect the attention from the mediocrity oozed by their music.
Oasis is the one band on this list who I can truly understand being described as the next Beatles - the Beatles had a very clear influence on the Gallagher brothers and their music and although they are not one of my favourites they are a proper band, not some bubblegum rubbish.
Having said that though - not sure whether you can read this article outside the UK but if you can then if you're not an Oasis fan I think it's worth reading (particularly if you happen to be an audiophile too) and is not as partisan as its title suggests:

I'm so glad it was their managers doing the bragging and not the band members themselves (or was it 0_0 and which ones out of their past like, 30, no seriously look it up XD XD) Don't get me wrong,I like the Bay City Rollers, imo they had a happy go lucky feeling about them. (<<I'm sure someone somewhere has said that EXACT thing about the Beatles XD whoops.) At times though they were a little bit too "Pop" for my tastes yet I still enjoy their music. I thought they were from Georgia 0_o (Or maybe that was John Fred and His Playboy Band) Point is, the "new" Beatles they were NOT.
