Re: Supertramp

^^ I'll back up what Lord Grendel posted earlier, Crime Of The Century is where to start if you're going to buy something other than a greatest hits package. It's the best one from start to finish.

Re: Supertramp

I first heard Supertramp on the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1974 and bought Crime of the Century the following day.

Although the songwriting credits were shared, I never really cared for Rick Davies songs or his voice. I always gravitated to the Roger Hodgson songs.

I have most of the albums and plan to get In The Eye Of The Storm soon. Hide In Your Shell has always been my favourite Supertramp song.

Re: Supertramp

^^I think they are great together, and I like Davies vocals myself. I have Eye of the Storm Snowblue and it's by far Roger's best solo effort, it really is a Supertramp album when I listen to it.

Time to chase the dustbunnies out of here.;)

I picked up a copy of "Even in the Quietest" moments at my used vinyl shop a month ago. Finally got around to cleaning it and then gave it a listen.

Usually I am giving vinyl the nod over CD's, but in this case the album is noisy, and there are so many quiet bits it's distracting. Supertramp is one band that did a masterful job when transferred to digital, so I think I'll be playing my CD of Quietest and eventually trade the used vinyl back in at the shop. Only cost $4 so it's not a big deal, if I saw the audiophile pressing I would buy it, but they are rare and expensive.

My 2 vinyl copies of Crime of the Century are excellent, one is absolutely perfect that's why I wanted to get Quietest as well, their two best albums.

There's a lot of posts in this thread, so if this has been posted, sorry for the repeat.

I just thought this was really cool. You don't see a lot of young kids like this into this 'old music', much less actually taking the time to make their own video of it.

^^Apparently some youngsters still have good taste. I saw Supertramp on tour in support of "Breakfast In America". Kind of sad that Roger won't let the current band use any of his songs in concert.

Bravo to these girls!!

Retro music is awesome, especially when the kids do something creative like this to show their appreciation.

Thanks for sharing the video, Vehicle, this made my heart smile :)

The only album of their's i've heard is the live album Paris

The instrumentation in their music is incredible. The saxophone in "The Logical Song" just sounds so good and it fits in well with the rest of the music which is unusual for a rock song(soft rock at that but still rock). Hide in Your Shell is a song of their's that I can heavily relate to. One day when I was feeling really depressed and angry at a lot of people, I started listening to it and it was the first time that it struck me how passionate Roger Hodgeson's vocals are. It's probably best to stay away from music when you're upset but it really made me appreciate the song more due to the state of mind I was in. Also for people who don't know much about Supertramp, I suggest picking up the blu-ray for Paris. The album of Paris has some of their most famous songs and their performance on the blu-ray is just incredible. That's where I started and i'd suggest that's where others should start.
