Re: Any fans of Mountain?

I've seen Mountain live three times in the last five years or so. Leslie West has lost a lot of weight and now looks great. Moreover he plays his guitar just as well as ever. Corky Laing is still a madman behind the drum kit. He has the unique ability to toss drumsticks to women in the audience without missing a beat. Replacement drumsticks appear in his hands as if by magic.

Two of the crowd favourites from Mountain's set list these days are "Theme from an Imaginary Western" and their smashing cover of "Paint It Black".

I've seen Mountain several times in the past few years and at HippieFest 2007 we had front row seats and I was the first woman (Corky doesn't toss his drumstick at men) to be tossed a drumstick.

Mountain is still great.

Re: Any fans of Mountain?

Felix Pappalardi who produced Cream and Mountain and played bass on the second and third Mountain albums was murdered by his wife. For the whole story, check out my blog on Classic Rock Esoterica.

Did the counter-culture die or was it murdered?

Re: Mountain

I used to love that band. I saw them in the mid-70s at my first concert, and I had all of the albums. I saw them open for Joe Satriani in New Orleans in 2008, and they were pathetic, just terrible. I was very disappointed.

Re: Mountain

Never had the chance to see Mountain live, but I love their version of Mississippi Queen, but I honestly don't know that much about them.

Re: Mountain

I loved Missisippi Queen the first time I heard it back in the mid/late 70's when I was just discovering Rock so I went out & bought there Best of whhich I loved especially because there was a cover of Chuck Berry's "Rollover Beethoven". Back then I would buy any album if there was a Chuck Berry cover on it(hell I even bought 38 Special's debut w/out ever hearing them because they covered "Around & Around".
Anyway,I liked the Best of alot so I immediately went out & bought their double live Twin Peaks album which was friggin' great!
