Last funeral I went to, they had this really beautiful and powerful organ music, and then after a while a choir joined it. It was religious music of course. But I can think of no greater send off than to take that formula, only playing this song instead:

Some other songs I'd like played at my funeral are....

It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleedin') -- Bob Dylan
Thrasher -- Neil Young
Crazy Beautiful Life -- Ke$ha
For Good -- Lea Michele & Chris Kolfer
Big Time -- Neil Young & Crazy Horse

Groovy as hell.

Yeah, I agree with the_spore, I'd love to have big jolly party (because you can't spell funeral without FUN) rather than silent lament.
I'd love these songs at my funeral :

Embryonic Journey - Jefferson Airplane
D.C.B.A. - Jefferson Airplane
Echoes - Pink Floyd
Breathe - Pink Floyd
The End - The Doors
When The Music's Over - The Doors
Little Wing - Jimi Hendrix
One by One - Weird War
Sundown Syndrome - Tame Impala
China Cat Sunflower - Grateful Dead
Dark Star - Grateful Dead
You Got The Silver - The Rolling Stones
The Norwegian Wood - The Beatles
I Am The Walrus - The Beatles

I just found this song...and for anyone with Scottish heritage, it is a beauty for a funeral. And for any other time. I will have this song played at my husband's funeral ('course I'll clear it with him first, and I'm not pushing him!! Just beautiful.

I was at a 21 year old person's funeral on Friday. Bridge Over Troubled Water was one of the songs played at the service.

I am a traditionalist and do not like it when people have corny songs like 'My Way'. I will go for Protestant hymns like Jerusalem. I also want everyone to sing up, with no mumbling.

"Hello, I Must Be Going" - Groucho Marx
"Do I Have To Do This All Over Again?" - The Monkees
"Deja Vu" - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
"I Feel Free" - Cream
"Beware of Darkness" - George Harrison
"Welcome To My Nightmare" - Alice Cooper
"Heaven" - The Rascals
"Saint Of Me" - The Rolling Stones
"Heaven Is In Your Mind" - Traffic
"Yakkity Sax" (also know as the Benny Hill theme) - it's during this song that the pall bearers will drop my casket (I want there to be laughs at my funeral, even cheap ones)

For my Mom's funeral I had to pick the music, so I chose a movement from one of Schumann's symphonies...everyone was crying their eyes out so I guess it did suit the mood. But I haven't listened to that piece in years, guess I should one of these days just to see if it still affects me.
