Re: Deep Purple

My first album was Deep Purple In Rock. It is still one of my favourite albums. I saw them lift the roof on the "House of Blue Light" tour and watched Ritchie put on a spellbinding show. In my world one of the best bands ever.

Re: Deep Purple

That would have been awesome Sox,,,sigh I wished I was in England from about 1967 - 1974, so many great bands were playing in pubs and nightclubs, they only ever came over here when they were Big.

Any other Purple albums you want to mention as your favorites?

Re: Deep Purple

I got hold of IN ROCK about 79` I wish I could have seen them early in their career (born to late) as it is I had to make do with the reunion but it was like a dream come true when they reformed about 84`. Got to go with Machine Head next cos Lazy is a killer track. then Fireball and Burn but I also really rate Perfect Strangers.

Re: Deep Purple

I didn't know that about Space Truckin' Taha,,,but it is amazing to think anyone would consider it "Filler". It was my Mom's favorite song off MH, she used to play it on her headphones and then Sing along...:D

I was just reading a thing on Deep Purple and according to Blackmore the riff to "Space Truckin'" is based on the Batman Theme. :heheh:

Re: Deep Purple

I am with Sox on this one, I love them and have seen a few different versions of the group, thankfully mark II. John lord is a genius and Blackmore is awesome. I love the BBC recordings with Peel introducing them (double cd) Wring that neck is one of my faves, especially the extended live jam version:

Re: Deep Purple

^^^I also agree that Deep Purple is awesome! That video must be from a pretty early show, with Blackmore playing a Gibson! That song could and often did go on for an extremely long time!

Re: Deep Purple

Here's the album Cosmic and I were talking about on page one of this thread...Jon Lord's contribution to the progressive rock scene via Deep Purple, 1969's "Concerto for Group & Orchestra." All kinds of English rock bands were experimenting with incorporating classical music into their own sound, and Deep Purple dipped one toe into the pool of prog rock with this record. Seeing I am a Huge classical music fan I like this album a lot, and I only discovered it a couple of years ago, by accident. While many fans of DP might not appreciate this album, one thing is beyond debate, Jon Lord was an exceptional keyboard player, never again would he match the creative peak of this record within the band. Unfortunately but not surprising it was not a big commercial success so Ritchie Blackmore steered the band towards the hard rock sound they are synonymous for. Still to know a band like Deep Purple could record this kind of album just made me respect them even more.

Part of the 3rd Movement with the London Symphony Orchestra.

Good track that Lazy, I have drank a few beers to that song, I also like, "Burn" a lot, John Lord doesn't half tinkle the ivory. "Fireball" is a classic and of course who can forget, "Strange Kind Of Woman"

Re: Deep Purple

Deep Purple are the band who originally gave me the "heavy music " fever that I have now and have had since first hearing Made In Japan. I remember my Uncle playing it and me just going "HOLY CRAP !!!" I had never really heard anything like it ( I was into mellower rock at the time ) I went out bought it and played it none stop and felt disdain for almost my entire record collection that I had been listening to up to that point :eek:hyeah:

Anyway..... In Rock , Fireball, Machine Head, Who Do We Think We Are ,Made In Japan
Burn ..all classics in my eyes. I have ALL their official US releases. That's how much I love Purple.
