Formed in 1969 they released their first album in 1970 "Wishbone Ash", they followed it with a stream of great albums including the classic "Argus" and the brilliant "Pilgrimage". The amazing twin lead of Andy Powell and Ted Turner showcased the bands musicianship driven effortlessly along by the bass of Martin Turner and Drum work of Steve Upton. The band has since branched off into two factions, one lead by Andy the other by Martin...

Re: Wishbone Ash

I've only got Argus, but I love it. A brilliant piece of music, and the dual guitar is a rockin' force! :D

Re: Wishbone Ash

i am another wishbone ash fanatic. freak. no, freakazoa. yes.

argus is the masterpiece, but my second fave is there's the rub. in fact, "silver shoes" from that album is the first ash song i ever heard on the radio, and it remains near and dear to my heart. (i can't find the straight album cut on youtube, alas.) i remember buying new england the day it came out.

i saw em in '02 in nashville, for bona fide (a very good album, by the way), before the schizm, and a great show it was. although their whole catalogue is patchy, and i should know... i think i own somewhere around 20 or 21, mwhahaha, i am batty... so much of it is so good, and so relatively unknown. a strange thing.

i kinda think of ash the same way i think of golden earring... a few hits known in the states and that's about it, when the truth is, there are at least several albums worth of primo material, just waiting to be discovered by classic rockites. truly. siiigh.

Re: Wishbone Ash

Have seen them a few times over the last few years, sorry to say that Martin Turner's version are not as good as Powell's version (the official one) Even my partner who has seen both says that Martin Turner's are ok but the guitar has no passion, this coming from someone who had not seen them untill a year ago so the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

I know that Powell is the guitar player but when he plays it is like the mermaids are calling from a distant shoreline and the waves a rolling slowly over the pebbles...mmmmmmmmmmm...............calm.
