I saw the original Wishbone Ash line up of Powell Turner Upton & Turner on there re-union tour at the Hammersmith Odeon back in 1989 now 28 years later I'm going to see Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash at the 100 club in Oxford Street in London England on October 14th 2017.

Martin Turner & the band do stuff off the first 4 albums plus Living Proof off the Just Testing album from 1980.

I attended Martin Turner's ex WISHBONE ASH gig at the 100 CLUB in Oxford Street, London England yesterday evening on Saturday 14th October 2017.

The band took the stage at 8:30pm (London time).

Numbers performed from memory I didn't write the set list down were-

1.OUTWARD BOUND
2.WRITTEN IN THE STARS
3.ERRORS OF MY WAY
4.FRONT PAGE NEWS
5.SILVER SHOES
6.F.U.B.B.
7.PILGRIMAGE
8.TIME WAS
9.SOMETIME WORLD
10.THE KING WILL COME
11.LEAF AND STREAM
12.WARROR
13.THROW DOWN THE SWORD
14.BLOWIN' FREE

Encore-

15.BLIND EYE
16.DOCTOR
17.LIVING PROOF
18.JAIL BAIT

The band left the stage to a huge cheer at 10:40pm (London time).

"Two songs that I would have liked the band to have played were Lady Whisky & Rock & Roll Widow but they didn't but thats a minor gripe from me but overall the band played very well and Martin's two guitarists were excellent and his drummer who really 'hit the drum kit hard' was really good as well even putting on a show of his own behind the drum kit and occasionally making funny faces to the assembled crowd!!."

Lucky you. Love this band's quietly understated style. I have been fortunate enough to see them live twice and was blown away each time.

No Phoenix on the setlist?

Yes funny enough I did realise that Phoenix hadn't been played by the band towards the end of the main set although strangely enough it wasn't really missed (by me) because by the time the band had played the last number of the main set (Blowin Free) and left the stage for a few minutes before returning again for the encores everyone in the crowd appeared to be in a 'party mood' with plenty of cheering, good humour and laughter going on amongst everyone present and when the band did finally return to the stage for the encores they kicked off with Blind Eye followed by Doctor then Living Proof and finished up with Jail Bait and by then many people especially several women I noticed at the front of the (low) stage were really getting into the music with on the spot dancing so the 'party mood' continued right until the finish of Jail Bait before the band put down there instruments and gathered at the front of the stage to thank everyone for coming before they finally left the stage and disappeared into the mass of people heading back to the dressing room...

I had seen Wishbone Ash play live once before way back in 1989 at the old Hammersmith Odeon in west London when all four original members of the band Andy Powell, Martin Turner, Steve Upton & Ted Turner reunited for a one off album and a tour.

Just out of curiosity : I thought Martin wasn't legally allowed to use the Wishbone Ash name for his band anymore...? I first saw them on the 'There's the Rub" tour in '74 just when Laurie Wisefield had joined in place of Ted Turner - Great show and I can still remember a fair few snippets of it, especially Lauries explosive solo in the second part of F.U.B.B. I kind of went off them a bit after 'Locked in' which I thought was dreadfully weak in the song writing stakes and very thin sounding in the production. Live Dates and the above mentioned There's the Rub are my two personal faves and still feature in my regular playlist

I believe Martin Turner can call himself Ex-Wishbone Ash but he can't call himself Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash.

At the 100 club gig in London on the 14th October 2017 Martin made a joke from the stage saying that the band would be playing the old favourites to night except for stuff off the Locked In album which got a laugh from the assembled fan's in the audience.

Ha... Well I can certainly relate to that. I didn't know until I read this that Martin still had his band on the go so it's good to hear. I was and am still annoyed with Andy Powells treatment of his old bandmates over the name business.

Yeah I'm not to sure what the problem is with Andy Powell and the rest of the Wishbone Ash former members?. Even though I like 'the Ash' and have enjoyed listening to there albums down the years especially there 1970s & 1980s albums I don't know what the bands internal politics were about?. I read recently within the last year (2017) something that Martin Turner had said about "constructive dismissal" from Wishbone Ash in 1980 (being forced out the band) when he was informed by Andy Powell that the rest of the band were considering hiring a 'proper vocalist' to front the band relegating Martin's position within the band to 'just the bass player' although as it happened the band didn't take on a 'proper vocalist' but by then Martin had departed the band. Obviously there was something going on between certain band members back in 1979/80?.
